Abstract

Provided are inks and coatings including carbon nanotubes.

Claims (30)

1. An electroconductive ink comprising:

carbon nanotubes; and

a liquid vehicle;

wherein said electroconductive ink has a viscosity from about 1 to about 50,000 cps and a thixotropic index value from about 1.0 to about 10.

2. The ink of claim 1 , wherein said liquid vehicle is a nonhydrocarbon polar organic solvent.

3. The ink of claim 1 , wherein said liquid vehicle is selected from the group consisting of carbitol, carbitol acetate, butyl carbitol, butyl carbitol acetate, butyrolactone, acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, cyclohexanone, dibasic ester solvent, diglyme, high boiling alcohols, alcohol esters, and water.

4. The ink of claim 1 , wherein said liquid vehicle has a boiling point from about 150° C. to 200° C.

5. The ink of claim 1 , wherein said carbon nanotubes are in the form of aggregates.

6. The ink of claim 1 , wherein said carbon nanotubes are oxidized multiwall carbon nanotubes.

7. The ink of claim 1 , further comprising a polymeric binder.

8. The ink of claim 7 , wherein said polymeric binder is selected from the group consisting of vinyl chloride, vinyl acetate, hydroxyalkyl acrylate, vinyl alcohol, cellulose acetate butyrate, hydroxylethyl cellulose, carboxylmethyl cellulose, acrylic-based polymers, and combinations thereof.

9. An electroconductive ink comprising:

carbon nanotubes; and

a liquid vehicle;

wherein said electroconductive ink has a viscosity from about 1 to about 80,000 cps and a thixotropic index value from about 1.0 to about 1.5.

10. The ink of claim 9 , wherein said liquid vehicle is a nonhydrocarbon polar organic solvent.

11. The ink of claim 9 , wherein said liquid vehicle is selected from the group consisting of carbitol, carbitol acetate, butyl carbitol, butyl carbitol acetate, butyrolactone, acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, cyclohexanone, dibasic ester solvent, diglyme, high boiling alcohols, alcohol esters, and water.

12. The ink of claim 9 , wherein said liquid vehicle has a boiling point from about 150° C. to 200° C.

13. The ink of claim 9 , wherein said carbon nanotubes are in the form of aggregates.

14. The ink of claim 9 , wherein said carbon nanotubes are oxidized multiwall carbon nanotubes.

15. The ink of claim 9 , further comprising a polymeric binder.

16. The ink of claim 15 , wherein said polymeric binder is selected from the group consisting of vinyl chloride, vinyl acetate, hydroxyalkyl acrylate, vinyl alcohol, cellulose acetate butyrate, hydroxylethyl cellulose, carboxylmethyl cellulose, acrylic-based polymers, and combinations thereof.

17. An electroconductive ink comprising:

0.1 to 5 wt. % carbon nanotubes;

0.1 to 10 wt. % polymeric binder; and

a liquid vehicle, wherein said electroconductive ink has a viscosity from about 1 to about 80,000 cps and a thixotropic index value from about 1.0 to about 10.

18. The ink of claim 17 , wherein said ink comprises:

a greater wt. % of carbon nanotubes than polymeric binder.

19. The ink of claim 17 , wherein said carbon nanotubes are oxidized carbon nanotubes.

20. The ink of claim 17 , wherein said ink has a viscosity from about 1 to about 50,000 cps and a thixotropic index value from about 1.0 to about 1.5.
