Abstract

An interactive television program guide system with digital storage is provided. The program guide gives users the ability to store information associated with recorded programs in a directory in the digital storage device thereby providing easy access to program information. The program guide may also provide a global media library for indicating the programs stored on removable storage media used with the program guide. The guide may also allow the user to manage and maintain a user media library to do the same. Non-time-sensitive data associated with recorded programs may be stored in a way that allows the user to interact with the data on playback as if the program were being originally aired. The program guide also allows the user to define “super-programs” for playback of a sequence of stored programs or program segments.

Claims (32)

1. A method comprising:

causing a program stored on a first storage device to be transferred from the first storage device to a second storage device without transferring another program that is stored on the first storage device, wherein the program is transferred from the first storage device to the second storage device responsive to receiving a user selection of a program listing, that corresponds to the program, using an interactive program guide;

receiving, with the second storage device, the program from the first storage device; and

storing the program on the second storage device.

2. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

generating a display of a plurality of program listings corresponding to programs stored on the first storage device, wherein the program listings include the program listing that corresponds to the program.

3. The method of claim 2 further comprising receiving, as the user selection, user input that selects the program listing using the generated display.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the user input is received with a touch sensitive device.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the program is transferred to the second storage device in response to a user selection of a key.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the program is a broadcast program.

7. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

displaying, in a display screen, a plurality of program listings; and

recording the program related to one of the plurality of program listings on the first storage device in response to receiving a user input selecting the one of the plurality of displayed program listings.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first storage device is a digital storage device.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first storage device is included in a first user equipment device and the second storage device is included in a second user equipment device.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the program is transferred in a format appropriate for the second storage device.

11. A system comprising:

control circuitry configured to:

cause a program stored on a first storage device to be transferred from the first storage device to a second storage device without transferring another program that is stored on the first storage device, wherein the program is transferred from the first storage device to the second storage device responsive to receiving a user selection of a program listing, that corresponds to the program, using an interactive program guide;

receive, with the second storage device, the program from the first storage device; and

store the program on the second storage device.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to generate a display of a plurality of program listings corresponding to programs stored on the first storage device, wherein the program listings include the program listing that corresponds to the program.

13. The system of claim 12 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to receive, as the user selection, user input that selects the program listing using the generated display.

14. The system of claim 13 , wherein the user input is received with a touch sensitive device.

15. The system of claim 11 , wherein the program is transferred to the second storage device in response to a user selection of a key.

16. The system of claim 11 , wherein the program is a broadcast program.

17. The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:

display, in a display screen, a plurality of program listings; and

record the program related to one of the plurality of program listings on the first storage device in response to receiving a user input selecting the one of the plurality of displayed program listings.

18. The system of claim 11 , wherein the first storage device is a digital storage device.

19. The system of claim 11 , wherein the first storage device is included in a first user equipment device and the second storage device is included in a second user equipment device.

20. The system of claim 11 , wherein the program is transferred in a format appropriate for the second storage device.
