Abstract

A pet enclosure includes a cover and a collapsible support frame. The cover includes a bottom panel, a top panel opposite the bottom panel, and a plurality of side panels extending between the bottom panel and the top panel to define an interior space of the cover, wherein an aperture is defined in the cover for accessing the interior space. The collapsible support frame is configured for insertion into the interior space of the cover via the aperture, and the support frame includes a floor arrangement, a first truss hingedly connected to the floor arrangement, and a second truss hingedly connected to the floor arrangement opposite the first truss. The first truss and the second truss are movable relative to one another within the interior space of the cover between a collapsed configuration of the support frame and an uncollapsed configuration of the support frame.

Claims (36)

1. A pet enclosure comprising:

a cover comprising a bottom panel, a top panel opposite the bottom panel, and a plurality of side panels extending between the bottom panel and the top panel to define an interior space of the cover, wherein an aperture is defined in the cover for accessing the interior space; and

a collapsible support frame configured for insertion into the interior space of the cover via the aperture, wherein the support frame comprises:

a floor arrangement;

a first truss hingedly connected to the floor arrangement; and

a second truss hingedly connected to the floor arrangement opposite the first truss, wherein the first truss and the second truss are movable relative to one another within the interior space of the cover between a collapsed configuration of the support frame and an uncollapsed configuration of the support frame.

2. The pet enclosure of claim 1 , further comprising at least one support member extendable in a plane generally parallel to the floor arrangement when the support frame is in the uncollapsed configuration.

3. The pet enclosure of claim 2 , wherein the at least one support member comprises a first support member hingedly connected to the first truss.

4. The pet enclosure of claim 3 , wherein the at least one support member further comprises a second support member hingedly connected to the second truss.

5. The pet enclosure of claim 4 , wherein the first support member and the second support member are configured for generally end-to-end alignment in the uncollapsed configuration of the support frame and generally side-by-side alignment in the collapsed configuration of the support frame.

6. A cover for a pet enclosure having a support frame that is pivotable between a collapsed configuration and an upright configuration, the cover comprising:

a bottom panel;

a top panel opposite the bottom panel; and

at least one side panel extending between the bottom panel and the top panel, the bottom panel, the top panel, and the at least one side panel collectively defining an interior space of the cover, the top panel comprising a top aperture and a top closure for selectively covering and uncovering the top aperture to provide access to the interior space through the top aperture such that the support frame can be inserted into the interior space through the top aperture in the collapsed configuration and pivoted between the collapsed configuration and the upright configuration while being disposed within the interior space, the front panel comprising a front aperture and a front closure for selectively covering and uncovering the front aperture to provide access to the interior space through the front aperture,

wherein the front panel has a panel perimeter, and the front aperture has an aperture perimeter smaller than the panel perimeter such that the front panel is configured to facilitate retaining the upright support frame within the interior space when the front aperture is not closed by the front closure.

7. The cover of claim 6 , wherein the cover is configured to stretch over the support frame to facilitate preventing the support frame from collapsing when the support frame is locked in the upright configuration within the interior space.

8. The cover of claim 6 , further comprising handles affixed to at least one of the top panel and the at least one side panel, wherein the handles are configured to be grasped.

9. The cover of claim 6 , wherein at least one of the bottom panel, the top panel, and the at least one side panel comprises a pair of closure clips engageable with one another when the support frame is in the collapsed configuration within the interior space of the cover to secure the support frame in the collapsed configuration.

10. The cover of claim 6 , wherein at least one of the bottom panel and the at least one side panel comprises a plurality of ground stake loops.

11. The cover of claim 6 , further comprising a reinforcing fabric connected to an exterior surface of at least one of the bottom panel and the at least one side panel proximate at least one corner at which the bottom panel is connected to the at least one side panel.

12. The cover of claim 6 , further comprising a plurality of straps configurable to releaseably connect the support frame to the cover.

13. The cover of claim 6 , wherein the closure comprises a zipper for securing the closure when the aperture is covered and a mesh portion for permitting airflow into the interior space when the aperture is covered.

14. A method of folding a pet enclosure that includes a cover and a support frame, the cover having a plurality of panels defining an interior space for stowing a pet and at least one aperture providing access to the interior space, the support frame being pivotable between a collapsed configuration and an upright configuration, the method comprising:

inserting the support frame through the aperture in the cover and into the interior space while the support frame is in the collapsed configuration; and

folding the cover atop of the collapsed support frame such that the cover is configured to be at least one of transported and stored with the collapsed support frame being disposed within the interior space.

15. The method of claim 14 , wherein the cover includes a plurality of straps connected to an interior surface of at least one of the panels and configured to releaseably connect the support frame to the cover within the interior space, the method further comprising:

pivoting the support frame into the upright configuration after inserting the collapsed support frame into the interior space through the aperture; and

releaseably connecting the support frame to the cover via the straps after pivoting the support frame into the upright configuration; and

pivoting the support frame into the collapsed configuration with the support frame connected to the cover via the straps to fold the cover atop of the collapsed support frame.

16. The method of claim 14 , wherein the support frame includes a floor truss, a first truss hingedly connected to the floor truss, and a second truss opposite the first truss and hingedly connected to the floor truss, the method further comprising:

inserting the collapsed support frame through the aperture and into the interior space with the first truss and the second truss folded toward the floor truss.

17. The method of claim 16 , wherein the panels include a bottom panel that defines a bottom panel plane and wherein the support frame includes a floor truss that defines a floor truss plane, the method further comprising:

arranging the collapsed support frame within the interior space such that the bottom panel plane and the floor truss plane are substantially parallel to one another.

18. The method of claim 14 , further comprising detachably connecting a first portion of the cover to a second portion of the cover after folding the cover atop of the collapsed support frame to secure the collapsed support frame within the cover.

19. The method of claim 14 , further comprising inserting the cover into a container with the collapsed support frame disposed within the interior space of the cover, the container being adapted for storing and carrying the pet enclosure.

20. The method of claim 19 , wherein inserting the cover into a container comprises inserting the cover into a bag.
