Abstract

A method and apparatus for a low complexity transform unit partitioning structure for High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC). The method includes determining prediction unit size of a coding unit, and setting the size of transform unit size of Y, U and V according to the prediction unit size of the coding unit.

Claims (12)

1. A method of a digital processor for a low complexity transform unit partitioning structure for High Efficiency Video Coding, comprising:

determining prediction unit size of a coding unit; and

setting the size of transform unit size of Y, U and V according to the prediction unit size of the coding unit, wherein when a prediction unit and the coding unit are the same size the transform unit for Y is set to NY×NY, NY=TUsize(2N, maxTUsiz, minTUsize) and for U and V to NC×NC, NC=TUsize(N, maxTUsiz, minTUsize); otherwise transform unit for Y is set to =NY×NY, NY=TUsize(N, maxTUsiz, minTUsize) and transform unit for U and V are set to NC×NC, NC=TUsize(N, maxTUsiz, minTUsize).

2. The method of claim 1 further comprising resetting the transform unit size of at least one of Y, U and V when the transform unit size of at least one of Y, U and V is less than the minimum transform unit size allowed or greater than the transform unit size allowed.

3. At least one of an encoder or a decoder performing a method, comprising:

determining prediction unit size of a coding unit; and

setting the size of transform unit size of Y, U and V according to the prediction unit size of the coding unit, wherein when a prediction unit and the coding unit are the same size the transform unit for Y is set to NY×NY, NY=TUsize(2N, maxTUsiz, minTUsize) and for U and V to NC×NC, NC=TUsize(N, maxTUsiz, minTUsize); otherwise transform unit for Y is set to=NY×NY, NY=TUsize(N, maxTUsiz, minTUsize) and transform unit for U and V are set to NC×NC, NC=TUsize(N, maxTUsiz, minTUsize).

4. The at least one of an encoder or decoder of claim 3 further comprising resetting the transform unit size of at least one of Y, U and V when the transform unit size of at least one of Y, U and V is less than the minimum transform unit size allowed or greater than the transform unit size allowed.

5. A non-transitory computer readable medium comprising computer instruction, when executed perform a method for a low complexity transform unit partitioning structure for High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC), comprising:

determining prediction unit size of a coding unit; and

setting the size of transform unit size of Y, U and V according to the prediction unit size of the coding unit, wherein when a prediction unit and the coding unit are the same size the transform unit for Y is set to NY×NY, NY=TUsize(2N, maxTUsiz, minTUsize) and for U and V to NC×NC, NC=TUsize(N, maxTUsiz, minTUsize); otherwise transform unit for Y is set to=NY×NY, NY=TUsize(N, maxTUsiz, minTUsize) and transform unit for U and V are set to NC×NC, NC=TUsize(N, maxTUsiz, minTUsize).

6. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 5 further comprising resetting the transform unit size of at least one of Y, U and V when the transform unit size of at least one of Y, U and V is less than the minimum transform unit size allowed or greater than the transform unit size allowed.
