DYNAMICALLY MODIFIABLE MOBILE DEVICE SIMULATOR

1 . A mobile device simulator, comprising:

a simulator script residing within a web page, the web page comprising a mobile-optimized website configuration script configured to execute simultaneously with the simulator script upon loading of the web page into a browser of a computing device, the mobile-optimized website configuration script configured to allow a user to modify one or more current selections of one or more mobile-optimized website components of a mobile-optimized website,

the simulator script configured to display an image representation of a mobile device, the image representation comprising an area corresponding to a display screen of the mobile device,

the simulator script configured to render a currently selected mobile-optimized web page within the display screen area of the image representation of the mobile device, the simulator script further configured to receive one or more mobile-optimized website configuration changes to the current selections of the one or more mobile-optimized website components from the mobile-optimized website configuration script and to make corresponding changes to the mobile-optimized website and re-render the changed currently selected mobile-optimized web page within the display screen area of the image representation of the mobile device.

2 . The mobile device simulator of claim 1 , wherein the corresponding changes to the mobile-optimized website are changes to the .html code of the currently selected mobile-optimized web page.

The mobile device simulator of claim 1 , wherein the corresponding changes to the mobile-optimized website are changes to the .html code of all mobile-optimized website components of the mobile-optimized website to which the received one or more mobile-optimized website configuration changes apply.

4 . The mobile device simulator of claim 1 , further comprising:

a preview engine that is responsive to the simulator script which retrieves and return to the simulator script one or more mobile-optimized website component assets corresponding to the received one or more mobile-optimized website configuration changes, the simulator script replacing one or more component assets of the mobile-optimized website with the returned one or more mobile-optimized website component assets.

The mobile device simulator of claim 1 , wherein the simulator script effects the received one or more mobile-optimized website configuration changes by performing one or more of replacing, adding, and removing .html code representing descriptions of corresponding components affected by the received changes in one or more of the mobile-optimized website.

The mobile device simulator of claim 1 , wherein the browser displaying the web page and displaying the currently selected mobile-optimized web page within the display screen area of the image representation of the mobile device is responsive to user input to one or more user controls on the displayed mobile-optimized web page and executes corresponding actions associated with the user input received with respect to an associated one of the one or more user controls.

The mobile device simulator of claim 6 , wherein the one or more user controls comprise navigation controls, and the received user input comprises activation of one of the navigation controls associated with a mobile-optimized web page that is not currently selected, wherein the browser loads the mobile-optimized web page that is not currently selected and renders the loaded mobile-optimized web page in the display screen area of the image representation of the mobile device, wherein the loaded mobile-optimized web page becomes the currently selected mobile-optimized web page.

8 . The mobile device simulator of claim 1 , wherein the changed currently selected mobile-optimized web page is not published until a user requests publication of the changed currently selected mobile-optimized web page.

9 . A web page comprising:

an image representation of a mobile device, the image representation comprising an area corresponding to a display screen of the mobile device;

a mobile-optimized web page rendered within the display screen area of the image representation of the mobile device, the web page corresponding to a web page description that is rendered by a browser;

a mobile-optimized website configuration tool which allows a user to configure a look of the mobile-optimized website, wherein receipt of user input corresponding to a change in mobile-optimized website configuration triggers a corresponding change to the look of the mobile-optimized web page rendered within the display screen area of the image representation of the mobile device.

10 . The mobile device simulator of claim 9 , wherein the corresponding changes to the mobile-optimized website are changes to the .html code of the currently selected mobile-optimized web page.

The mobile device simulator of claim 9 , wherein the corresponding changes to the mobile-optimized website are changes to the .html code of all mobile-optimized website components of the mobile-optimized website to which the received one or more mobile-optimized website configuration changes apply.

12 . The mobile device simulator of claim 9 , further comprising:

a preview engine that is responsive to the simulator script which retrieves and return to the simulator script one or more mobile-optimized website component assets corresponding to the received one or more mobile-optimized website configuration changes, the simulator script replacing one or more component assets of the mobile-optimized website with the returned one or more mobile-optimized website component assets.

The mobile device simulator of claim 9 , wherein the simulator script effects the received one or more mobile-optimized website configuration changes by performing one or more of replacing, adding, and removing .html code representing descriptions of corresponding components affected by the received changes in one or more of the mobile-optimized website.

The mobile device simulator of claim 9 , wherein the browser displaying the web page and displaying the currently selected mobile-optimized web page within the display screen area of the image representation of the mobile device is responsive to user input to one or more user controls on the mobile-optimized web page rendered in the display screen area of the image representation of the mobile device, and executes corresponding actions associated with the user input received with respect to an associated one of the one or more user controls.

The mobile device simulator of claim 14 , wherein the one or more user controls comprise navigation controls, and the received user input comprises activation of one of the navigation controls associated with a mobile-optimized web page that is not currently selected, wherein the browser loads the mobile-optimized web page that is not currently selected and renders the loaded mobile-optimized web page in the display screen area of the image representation of the mobile device, wherein the loaded mobile-optimized web page becomes the currently selected mobile-optimized web page.

16 . The mobile device simulator of claim 9 , wherein the changed currently selected mobile-optimized web page is not published until a user requests publication of the changed currently selected mobile-optimized web page.

17 . A mobile device simulator, comprising:

one or more processors;

a display screen;

a browser displaying a web page on the display screen, the web page comprising a mobile-optimized website configuration script and a simulator script;

wherein the mobile-optimized website configuration script is configured to allow a user to modify one or more current selections of one or more mobile-optimized website components of a mobile-optimized website,

wherein the simulator script is configured to display an image representation of a mobile device, the image representation comprising an area corresponding to a display screen of the mobile device,

wherein the simulator script is configured to render a currently selected mobile-optimized web page of the mobile-optimized website within the display screen area of the image representation of the mobile device, and

wherein the simulator script is configured to receive from the mobile-optimized website configuration script one or more mobile-optimized website configuration modifications to the current selections of the one or more mobile-optimized website components of the mobile-optimized website and to make corresponding page description modifications to the mobile-optimized website and re-render the currently selected modified mobile-optimized web page within the display screen area of the image representation of the mobile device.

The mobile device simulator of claim 17 , wherein the simulator script is configured to modify the page description code of the currently selected mobile-optimized web page of the mobile-optimized website by modifying the page description code of the currently selected mobile-optimized web page, the modified page description code corresponding to the received one or more mobile-optimized website configuration modifications.

The mobile device simulator of claim 17 , wherein the simulator script is configured to modify the page description code of all mobile-optimized website components of the mobile-optimized website to which the corresponding received one or more mobile-optimized website configuration modifications apply.

20 . The mobile device simulator of claim 17 , further comprising:

one or more processors which retrieve and return to the simulator script one or more mobile-optimized website component assets corresponding to the received one or more mobile-optimized website configuration modifications,

wherein the simulator script is configured to replace one or more component assets of the mobile-optimized website with the returned one or more mobile-optimized website component assets.

The mobile device simulator of claim 17 , wherein the simulator script is configured to effect the received one or more mobile-optimized website configuration modifications by one or more of replacing, adding, and removing .html code representing descriptions of corresponding components affected by the received changes in one or more of the mobile-optimized website.

The mobile device simulator of claim 17 , wherein the browser displaying the web page and displaying the currently selected mobile-optimized web page within the display screen area of the image representation of the mobile device is responsive to user input to one or more user controls on the displayed mobile-optimized web page and executes corresponding actions associated with the user input received with respect to an associated one of the one or more user controls.

The mobile device simulator of claim 22 , wherein the one or more user controls comprise navigation controls, and the received user input comprises activation of one of the navigation controls associated with a mobile-optimized web page that is not currently selected, wherein the browser loads the mobile-optimized web page that is not currently selected and renders the loaded mobile-optimized web page in the display screen area of the image representation of the mobile device, wherein the loaded mobile-optimized web page becomes the currently selected mobile-optimized web page.

24 . The mobile device simulator of claim 17 , wherein the currently selected modified mobile-optimized web page is re-rendered and displayed within the display screen area of the image representation of the mobile device without first publishing the mobile-optimized web page.
