Abstract

A wireless communications device provides users with opportunities to access interactive media guidance or other applications and to control interactive media guidance applications running on user equipment. The wireless communications device may have a touch-sensitive screen with controls that are coordinated with the features of the interactive media guidance or other applications. The wireless communications device may function as a remote controller for user equipment.

Claims (51)

1 - 30 . (canceled)

31 . A method comprising:

receiving media with a user equipment device;

establishing, with the user equipment device, a connection between the user equipment device and a user mobile device;

displaying the media with the user equipment device in a first format;

determining, with the user equipment device, a second format for the media based on system resources associated with the mobile user device; and

transmitting, with the user equipment device, the media to the user mobile device, wherein the media is transmitted for display on the user mobile device in the second format.

32 . The method of claim 31 , wherein:

the media displayed with the user equipment device in the first format comprises video data having a first video resolution,

the media transmitted for display on the user mobile device in the second format comprises video data having a second video resolution, and

the first resolution is greater than the second resolution.

33 . The method of claim 31 , further comprising:

determining, with the user equipment device, the second format for the media based on a quality of the connection between the user equipment device and the user mobile device.

34 . The method of claim 33 , wherein the quality of the connection between the user equipment device and the mobile user device comprises a bandwidth available for transmitting data between the user equipment device and the mobile user device.

35 . The method of claim 31 , wherein:

the media in the first format comprises data in a first compression format,

the data comprises at least one of video data, audio data and media guidance data; and

the media transmitted for display on the user mobile device in the second format comprises data in a second compression format generated based on the data in the first compression format.

36 . The method of claim 31 , wherein the media transmitted for display on the user mobile device in the second format is generated with the user equipment device based on the media in the first format.

37 . The method of claim 31 , wherein the transmitted media in the second format is displayed in a program guide implemented on the mobile user device.

38 . The method of claim 31 , wherein the available system resources of the user mobile device comprise a screen resolution of the user mobile device.

39 . The method of claim 31 , further comprising:

transmitting the media to the user mobile device in the second format based on determining that the media can not be transmitted to the mobile user device in the first format.

40 . The method of claim 31 , wherein:

the media in the first format comprises video data, and

the media in the second format comprises a still image of the video data.

41 . A system comprising control circuitry configured to:

receive media with a user equipment device;

establish, with the user equipment device, a connection between the user equipment device and a user mobile device;

display the media with the user equipment device in a first format;

determine, with the user equipment device, a second format for the media based on system resources associated with the mobile user device; and

transmit, with the user equipment device, the media to the user mobile device, wherein the media is transmitted for display on the user mobile device in the second format.

42 . The system of claim 41 , wherein:

the media displayed with the user equipment device in the first format comprises video data having a first video resolution,

the media transmitted for display on the user mobile device in the second format comprises video data having a second video resolution, and

the first resolution is greater than the second resolution.

43 . The system of claim 41 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:

determine, with the user equipment device, the second format for the media based on a quality of the connection between the user equipment device and the user mobile device.

44 . The system of claim 43 , wherein the quality of the connection between the user equipment device and the mobile user device comprises a bandwidth available for transmitting data between the user equipment device and the mobile user device.

45 . The system of claim 41 , wherein:

the media in the first format comprises data in a first compression format,

the data comprises at least one of video data, audio data and media guidance data; and

the media transmitted for display on the user mobile device in the second format comprises data in a second compression format generated based on the data in the first compression format.

46 . The system of claim 41 , wherein the media transmitted for display on the user mobile device in the second format is generated with the user equipment device based on the media in the first format.

47 . The system of claim 41 , wherein the transmitted media in the second format is displayed in a program guide implemented on the mobile user device.

48 . The system of claim 41 , wherein the available system resources of the user mobile device comprise a screen resolution of the user mobile device.

49 . The system of claim 41 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:

transmit the media to the user mobile device in the second format based on determining that the media can not be transmitted to the mobile user device in the first format.

50 . The system of claim 41 , wherein:

the media in the first format comprises video data, and

the media in the second format comprises a still image of the video data.
