Abstract

A method for decoding a picture on an electronic device is described. The method includes obtaining a bitstream. The method also includes obtaining a current picture. The method further includes obtaining a relative reference picture set (RPS) parameter. The method additionally includes initializing an index value. Furthermore, the method includes processing another RPS parameter based on the index value. The method also includes decoding the current picture.

Claims (39)

1. A method for decoding a picture on an electronic device, comprising:

obtaining a bitstream;

obtaining a current picture;

obtaining a relative reference picture set (RPS) parameter;

initializing an index value based on the relative RPS parameter;

processing another RPS parameter based on the index value; and

decoding the current picture.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the relative RPS parameter is a negative relative RPS parameter and the other RPS parameter is a positive RPS parameter.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein initializing the index value is based on the relative negative RPS parameter that is relative to the current picture.

4. The method of claim 2 , wherein the index value is initialized to an absolute value of a smallest RPS parameter.

5. The method of claim 2 , further comprising obtaining a symmetric flag.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the symmetric flag indicates that the relative negative RPS parameter corresponds to the positive RPS parameter.

7. The method of claim 5 , wherein initializing the index value is based on the relative negative RPS parameter and the symmetric flag.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the index value is initialized to the absolute value of a smallest RPS parameter.

9. The method of claim 2 , wherein processing the positive RPS parameter comprises skipping processing of at least one positive RPS parameter when the index value is initialized.

10. There method of claim 2 , wherein processing the positive RPS parameter comprises generating the positive RPS parameter.

11. The method of claim 2 , wherein the negative RPS parameter is obtained from a picture parameter set (PPS).

12. The method of claim 1 , wherein the relative RPS parameter is a positive relative RPS parameter and the other RPS parameter is a negative RPS parameter.

13. An electronic device for decoding a picture, comprising:

a processor;

memory in electronic communication with the processor;

instructions stored in the memory, the instructions being executable to:

obtain a bitstream;

obtain a current picture;

obtain a relative reference picture set (RPS) parameter;

initialize an index value based on the relative RPS parameter;

process another RPS parameter based on the index value; and

decode the current picture.

14. The electronic device of claim 13 , wherein the relative RPS parameter is a negative relative RPS parameter and the other RPS parameter is a positive RPS parameter.

15. The electronic device of claim 14 , wherein initializing the index value is based on the relative negative RPS parameter that is relative to the current picture.

16. The electronic device of claim 14 , wherein the index value is initialized to an absolute value of a smallest RPS parameter.

17. The electronic device of claim 14 , further comprising obtaining a symmetric flag.

18. The electronic device of claim 17 , wherein the symmetric flag indicates that the relative negative RPS parameter corresponds to the positive RPS parameter.

19. The electronic device of claim 17 , wherein initializing the index value is based on the relative negative RPS parameter and the symmetric flag.

20. The electronic device of claim 19 , wherein the index value is initialized to the absolute value of a smallest RPS parameter.

21. The electronic device of claim 14 , wherein processing the positive RPS parameter comprises skipping processing of at least one positive RPS parameter when the index value is initialized.

22. The electronic device of claim 14 , wherein processing the positive RPS parameter comprises generating the positive RPS parameter.

23. The electronic device of claim 14 , wherein the negative RPS parameter is obtained from a picture parameter set (PPS).

24. The electronic device of claim 13 , wherein the relative RPS parameter is a positive relative RPS parameter and the other RPS parameter is a negative RPS parameter.
