Abstract

Pixel interleaving configurations for use in high definition electronic sign displays where each and every scan line includes full red, green, and blue color representation to provide for high resolution electronic video sign displays.

Claims (20)

1. An electronic display device comprising:

a plurality of lines of LEDs, including at least a first odd line of LEDs, a first even line of LEDs, and a second odd line of LEDs, the lines of LEDs together providing a plurality of blue LEDs, green LEDs, and red LEDs;

a first scan line of LED groupings, each LED grouping of the first scan line comprising a blue LED selected either from the first odd line or from the first even line, a green LED selected either from the first odd line or from the first even line, and a red LED selected either from the first odd line or from the first even line;

a second scan line of LED groupings interleaved with the first scan line of LED groupings, each LED grouping of the second scan line comprising a blue LED selected either from the first even line or from the second odd line, a green LED selected either from the first even line or from the second odd line, and a red LED selected either from the first even line or from the second odd line;

wherein the first and second odd lines include only blue LEDs and red LEDs; and

wherein the first even line includes only green LEDs, and wherein the green LEDs have a view path, in a horizontal plane, up to about 150°, due to the lack of an obstructing horizontally situated LED in adjacent scanning lines and wherein the red LEDs and the blue LEDs have a view path, in an angled plane, up to about 140°.

2. The electronic display device of claim 1 , wherein one of the blue LED, the green LED, and the red LED of each LED grouping of the first scan line is selected from the first odd line and the other two of the blue LED, the green LED, and the red LED of each LED grouping are selected from the first even line.

3. The electronic display device of claim 1 , wherein one of the blue LED, the green LED, and the red LED of each LED grouping of the first scan line is selected from the first even line and the other two of the blue LED, the green LED, and the red LED of each LED grouping are selected from the first odd line.

4. The electronic display device of claim 1 , wherein one of the blue LED, the green LED, and the red LED of each LED grouping of the second scan line is selected from the first even line and the other two of the blue LED, the green LED, and the red LED of each LED grouping are selected from the second odd line.

5. The electronic display device of claim 1 , wherein one of the blue LED, the green LED, and the red LED of each LED grouping of the second scan line is selected from the second odd line and the other two of the blue LED, the green LED, and the red LED of each LED grouping are selected from the first even line.

6. The electronic display device of claim 1 , further comprising a second even line and a third scan line of LED groupings, each LED grouping of the third scan line comprising a blue LED selected either from the second odd line or from the second even line, a green LED selected either from the second odd line or from the second even line, and a red LED selected either from the second odd line or from the second even line.

7. The electronic display device of claim 6 , wherein one of the blue LED, the green LED, and the red LED of each LED grouping of the third scan line is selected from the second odd line and the other two of the blue LED, the green LED, and the red LED of each LED grouping are selected from the second even line.

8. The electronic display device of claim 6 , wherein one of the blue LED, the green LED, and the red LED of each LED grouping of the third scan line is selected from the second even line and the other two of the blue LED, the green LED, and the red LED of each LED grouping are selected from the second odd line.

9. The electronic display device of claim 6 , further comprising a third odd line of LEDs and a fourth scan line of LED groupings, each LED grouping of the fourth scan line comprising a blue LED selected either from the second even line or from the third odd line, a green LED selected either from the second even line or from the third odd line, and a red LED selected either from the second even line or from the third odd line.

10. The electronic display device of claim 9 , wherein one of the blue LED, the green LED, and the red LED of each LED grouping of the fourth scan line is selected from the second even line and the other two of the blue LED, the green LED, and the red LED of each LED grouping are selected from the third odd line.

11. The electronic display device of claim 9 , wherein one of the blue LED, the green LED, and the red LED of each LED grouping of the fourth scan line is selected from the third odd line and the other two of the blue LED, the green LED, and the red LED of each LED grouping are selected from the second even line.

12. The electronic display device of claim 1 , wherein adjacent LEDs are horizontally spaced about 12.5 mm on center.

13. The electronic display device of claim 1 , wherein the first odd line, the first even line, and the second odd line extend in a generally horizontal direction.

14. The electronic display device of claim 1 , wherein the first odd line, the first even line, and the second odd line extend in a generally vertical direction.

15. The electronic display device of claim 14 , wherein the first scan line and the second scan line are vertically spaced about 6.25 mm on center.
