Wound care method and system with one or both of vacuum-light therapy and thermally augmented oxygenation
A system for treatment of a wound area of a patient including a first treatment pad comprising a plurality of Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) for cleaning and exposing a wound area to ultraviolet light, a second treatment pad comprising removal ports for exposing the wound area to a negative pressure, and a control unit interoperably connected to the first and second treatment pads for providing a negative pressure and the ultraviolet light to the wound area.
1. A therapy system comprising:
a combination therapy pad comprising a plurality of fiber-optic strands and a port;
a pressure switch fluidly coupled to the port;
an oxygen source fluidly coupled to the pressure switch;
a vacuum pump fluidly coupled to the pressure switch;
a plurality of light emitting diodes operationally coupled to the plurality of fiber-optic strands;
wherein the combination therapy pad administers at least one of vacuum therapy and oxygenation therapy via the pressure switch; and
further comprising a radio frequency antenna disposed in the therapy pad for delivering radio frequency energy to the wound.
2. The therapy system of claim 1 , further comprising:
a heat transfer fluid reservoir fluidly coupled to the therapy pad by a plurality of tubes, the plurality of tubes defining a heat transfer fluid flow path; and,
a thermoelectric element thermally exposed to the heat transfer fluid reservoir.
3. The therapy system of claim 1 , further comprising a thermoelectric element thermally exposed to the oxygen source.
4. The therapy system of claim 1 , further comprising a luer lock fluidly coupled to the therapy pad, wherein the luer lock allows administration of medications to a wound site without removal of the therapy pad.
5. The therapy system of claim 1 , wherein the radio frequency antenna comprises a wire.
6. The therapy system of claim 1 , wherein the radio frequency antenna receives a pulsed radio frequency signal.
7. The therapy system of claim 6 , the pulsed radio frequency signal is approximately 27 MHz.
8. The therapy system of claim 6 , wherein the pulsed radio frequency signal stimulates cellular bonding thereby promoting healing of a wound area.
