Abstract

In a method available frequency band for communication is determined and a frequency f c of a carrier is determined based on the available frequency band. The carrier is set to the frequency f c for communicating with one or more communication devices via a first communication channel within the available frequency band using. After communicating via the first communication channel, the carrier frequency f c is used for communicating with one or more communication devices via a second communication channel within the available bandwidth. A center frequency of the first channel is different than a center frequency of the second channel.

4. A method according to claim 1 , wherein determining the available frequency band for communication comprises determining, within a spectrum allocated for television (TV) signal transmission, one or more TV channel slots in which television signals are not being transmitted.

5. A method according to claim 4 , wherein

communicating via the first communication channel comprises performing two way communication with one or more communication devices via the first communication channel, and

communicating via the second communication channel comprises performing two way communication with one or more communication devices via the second communication channel.

6. An apparatus, comprising:

a network interface configured to:

determine an available frequency band for communication,

determine a frequency f c of a carrier based on the available frequency band,

communicate with one or more communication devices via a first communication channel within the available frequency band using the carrier set to the frequency f c ,

select the first communication channel from a set of communication channels within the available frequency band, the set of communication channels including (i) a first subset of communication channels and (ii) a second subset of at least one communication channel, wherein

no communication channel in the first subset overlaps with another communication channel in the first subset, and

a communication channel in the second subset (i) overlaps with at least two communication channels in the first, and (ii) has a frequency bandwidth that corresponds to a cumulative bandwidth of the at least two communication channels in the first subset; and

use the local oscillator set to the frequency f LO to upconvert to or downconvert from the second communication channel.

9. An apparatus according to claim 6 , wherein the network interface is configured to determine the available frequency band for communication based on determining, within a spectrum allocated for television (TV) signal transmission, one or more TV channel slots in which television signals are not being transmitted.

10. An apparatus according to claim 9 , wherein the network interface is configured to

perform two way communication with one or more communication devices via the first communication channel, and
