Abstract

The invention features tobacco compositions and methods of their use and manufacture. Compositions of the invention may be based on a variety of technologies. Technologies include films, tabs, shaped parts, gels, consumable units, insoluble matrices, and hollow shapes. In addition to tobacco, compositions may also contain flavors, colors, and other additives as described herein. Compositions may also be orally disintegrable. Exemplary compositions and methods of their manufacture are described herein.

Claims (20)

1. A product comprising:

an insoluble matrix, the insoluble matrix comprising polyurethane; and

an orally disintegrable composition supported by the insoluble matrix, the orally disintegrable composition comprising an extract of tobacco including two or more tobacco organoleptic components, wherein the product is a tab sized to fit within a mouth shaped as a wafer, a convex or concave pellet, or an oval.

2. The product of claim 1 , wherein the insoluble matrix comprises pores.

3. The product of claim 2 , wherein the orally disintegrable composition is disposed within the pores.

4. The product of claim 1 , wherein the orally disintegrable composition is coated on the insoluble matrix.

5. The product of claim 1 , wherein the orally disintegrable composition further comprises a water soluble polymer.

6. The product of claim 1 , wherein the orally disintegrable composition comprises tobacco particles.

7. The product of claim 6 , wherein the tobacco particles have an average particle size of 250 μm or less.

8. The product of claim 6 , said tobacco particles having an average particle size of 80 μm or less.

9. The product of claim 6 , said tobacco particles having an average particle size of 75 μm or less.

10. The product of claim 6 , said tobacco particles having an average particle size of 50 μm or less.

11. The product of claim 6 , said tobacco particles having an average particle size of 25 μm or less.

12. A product comprising an insoluble matrix and a tobacco composition, the insoluble matrix comprising polyurethane, wherein said tobacco composition comprises an extract of tobacco including two or more tobacco organoleptic components, wherein the product is a tab sized to fit within a mouth shaped as a wafer, a convex or concave pellet, or an oval.

13. The product of claim 12 , wherein the insoluble matrix comprises pores.

14. The product of claim 13 , wherein the tobacco composition is disposed within the pores.

15. The product of claim 12 , wherein the tobacco composition further comprises a water soluble polymer.

16. The product of claim 12 , wherein the tobacco composition comprises tobacco particles.

17. The product of claim 16 , wherein the tobacco particles have an average particle size of 250 μm or less.

18. The product of claim 16 , wherein the tobacco particles have an average particle size of 80 μm or less.
