Azeotrope-like compositions of tetrafluoropropene and alcohols
View Patent ↗A composition including an effective amount of trans-1,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene component combined with an effective amount of an alcohol selected from the group of methanol, ethanol, propanol, isopropanol, tert-butanol, isobutanol, 2-ethyl hexanol and any combination thereof, where the composition has azeotropic properties.
1. A foamable mixture comprising:
(a) a blowing agent comprising an azeotrope-like composition consisting essentially of trans-1,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene and ethanol, wherein said trans-1,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene and ethanol are present in an amount effective to form an azeotrope-like composition, and wherein said azeotrope-like composition has a boiling point of from about −20° C. to about −19° C. at a pressure of about 14.3 psia; and
(b) a foamable composition.
2. The foamable mixture of claim 1 , wherein said trans-1,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene is present in said azeotrope-like composition in amounts of from about 83 to about 98 weight percent of said azeotrope-like composition.
3. The foamable mixture of claim 2 , wherein said trans-1,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene is present in said azeotrope-like composition in amounts of from about 83.4 weight percent to about 98.8 weight percent of said composition.
4. The foamable mixture of claim 1 , wherein said ethanol is present in said azeotrope-like composition in amounts of from about 1 to about 16 weight percent of said azeotrope-like composition.
5. The foamable mixture of claim 4 , wherein said ethanol is present in said azeotrope-like composition in amounts of from about 1.2 to about 16.6 weight percent of said azeotrope-like compositions.
6. The foamable mixture of claim 1 , wherein said foamable composition comprises a thermoset foam component.
7. The foamable mixture of claim 6 wherein said thermoset foam component is selected from the group consisting of polyurethane foam, polyisocyanurate foam, phenolic foam, and combinations of two or more of these.
8. The foamable mixture of claim 1 , wherein said foamable composition comprises a thermoplastic foam component.
9. The foamable mixture of claim 8 , wherein said thermoplastic foam component is selected from the group consisting of polystyrene, polyethylene, polypropylene, polyethyleneterphthalate, and combinations of two or more of these.
10. The foamable mixture of claim 8 , wherein said thermoplastic foam component comprises polystyrene.
11. The foamable mixture of claim 1 , wherein said foamable composition comprises an A-side and a B-side, wherein said B-side comprises a polyol and one or more of a surfactant, a catalyst, an adjuvant, and any combination thereof, and wherein said A-side comprises isocyanate.
12. A sprayable composition comprising:
(a) a material to be sprayed; and
(b) a propellant comprising an azeotrope-like composition consisting essentially of trans-1,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene and ethanol, wherein said trans-1,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene and said ethanol are present in an amount effective to form an azeotrope-like composition, and wherein said azeotrope-like composition has a boiling point of from about −20° C. to about −19° C. at a pressure of about 14.3 psia.
13. The sprayable composition of claim 12 , wherein said trans-1,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene is present in said azeotrope-like composition in amounts of from about 83 to about 98 weight percent of said azeotrope-like composition.
14. The sprayable composition of claim 13 , wherein said trans-1,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene is present in said azeotrope-like composition in amounts of from about 83.4 weight percent to about 98.8 weight percent of said azeotrope-like composition.
15. The sprayable composition of claim 12 , wherein said ethanol is present in said azeotrope-like composition in amounts of from about 1 to about 16 weight percent of said azeotrope-like composition.
16. An aerosol comprising the sprayable composition of claim 12 .
17. The sprayable composition of claim 12 , wherein said material to be sprayed is selected from the group consisting of cosmetic, cleaning solvents, lubricants, and medicinal materials.
18. The sprayable composition of claim 12 , wherein said material to be sprayed comprises a solvent.
