Abstract

An automated banking machine system operates to cause financial transfers responsive to data read from data bearing records. The system is operative to read a financial card bearing account indicia with a card reader. A user is enabled to perform at least one banking operation responsive to account indicia read from the card. Such banking operations may include dispensing cash and accessing financial accounts. A user is also enabled to perform at least one banking operation responsive to financial account data communicated to the automated banking machine from a mobile phone.

Claims (40)

1. Apparatus comprising:

an automated banking machine, wherein the automated banking machine is operative responsive at least in part to data read from data bearing records to cause financial transfers, wherein the automated banking machine includes:

a card reader, wherein the card reader is operative to read card data from user cards, wherein the card data corresponds to financial accounts;

a cash dispenser;

at least one input device; and

a communication device; and

at least one computer in operative communication with the card reader, the cash dispenser, the at least one input device, and the communication device, wherein the at least one computer is operative to enable the communication device to receive at least one communication from a portable wireless device, wherein the at least one communication includes financial account data corresponding to a financial account;

wherein the at least one computer is operative responsive at least in part to the financial account data received from the portable wireless device and at least one input received through operation of at least one of the at least one input device and the communication device, to cause the cash dispenser to dispense cash.

2. The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one input includes at least one further communication received through operation of the communication device from the portable wireless device.

The apparatus according to claim 2 , wherein the at least one further communication includes data corresponding to an amount, wherein responsive at least in part to the at least one further communication the at least one computer is operative to cause the cash dispenser to dispense cash corresponding to the amount.

4. The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one input includes at least one manual input received through operation of the at least one input device.

5. The apparatus according to claim 4 , wherein the at least one input device includes at least one of a touch screen and a manually actuatable key.

6. The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one input device includes a biometric reader, wherein the at least one input includes read biometric data received through operation of the at least one biometric reader.

The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one computer is operative to cause the communication device to send at least one further communication to the portable wireless device operative to cause an output device of the portable wireless device to output a visual prompt to move adjacent to the automated banking machine.

8. The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the communication device is operative to wirelessly communicate with the portable wireless device.

9. The apparatus according to claim 8 , wherein the communication device is operative to communicate with the portable wireless device via radio frequency communications.

10. The apparatus according to claim 9 , wherein the radio frequency communications include Bluetooth communications.

11. The apparatus according to claim 9 , wherein the radio frequency communications include wireless Ethernet communications.

12. The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the communication device is operative to communicate with a portable wireless device that includes mobile phone capability.

13. The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the communication device is operative to communicate with a notebook computer.

14. The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one computer is operative to cause the communication device to carry out a handshaking protocol with the portable wireless device and cause an encrypted communication channel to be established through which the financial account data is communicated.

15. The apparatus according to claim 14 , wherein the at least one computer is operative to cause the communication device to communicate a digital certificate to the portable wireless device.

16. Apparatus comprising:

an automated banking machine, wherein the automated banking machine is operative responsive at least in part to data read from data bearing records to cause financial transfers, wherein the automated banking machine includes:

a card reader, wherein the card reader is operative to read card data from user cards, wherein the card data corresponds to financial accounts;

a cash dispenser;

at least one input device; and

a communication device; and

at least one computer operative to communicate with the card reader, the cash dispenser, the at least one input device, and the communication device, wherein the at least one computer is operative to enable the communication device to wirelessly receive from a mobile phone at least one communication including financial account data corresponding to a financial account;

wherein the at least one computer is operative responsive at least in part to the financial account data received from the mobile phone and at least one input received through operation of at least one of the at least one input device and the communication device, to cause the cash dispenser to dispense cash.

17. The apparatus according to claim 16 , wherein the communication device is operative to wirelessly communicate with the mobile phone via radio frequency communications.

18. The apparatus according to claim 17 , wherein the radio frequency communications include Bluetooth communications.

19. The apparatus according to claim 17 , wherein the at least one computer is operative to cause the communication device to send at least one further communication to the mobile phone operative to cause an output device of the mobile phone to output a visual prompt to move adjacent to the automated banking machine.

The apparatus according to claim 19 , wherein the at least one input device includes at least one of a touch screen and at least one manually actuatable key, and wherein the at least one input includes at least one of a manual input and a wireless communication received through operation of the communication device from the mobile phone.

21. Apparatus comprising:

an automated banking machine, wherein the automated banking machine is operative responsive at least in part to data read from data bearing records to cause financial transfers, wherein the automated banking machine includes:

a cash dispenser; and

at least one input device;

at least one computer operative to communicate with the cash dispenser and the at least one input device, wherein the at least one computer is operative to enable the automated banking machine to wirelessly receive from a mobile phone at least one communication including financial account data corresponding to a financial account;

wherein the at least one computer is operative responsive at least in part to the financial account data received from the mobile phone and at least one input received at least one of from the mobile phone and through operation of the at least one input device, to cause the cash dispenser to dispense cash.
