Active-Stylus Nib with Rolling-Ball Tip
In one embodiment, an apparatus includes a stylus nib of a stylus. The stylus nib comprising a tapered end. The apparatus also includes a rolling-ball tip. At least a portion of the rolling-ball tip is housed within the tapered end of the stylus nib, and the rolling-ball tip includes an electrode configured to transmit a signal wirelessly to a device through a touch-sensor of the device.
1 . An apparatus comprising:
a stylus nib of a stylus, the stylus nib comprising a tapered end; and
a rolling-ball tip, at least a portion of the rolling-ball tip being housed within the tapered end of the stylus nib, the rolling-ball tip comprising an electrode configured to transmit a signal wirelessly to a device through a touch-sensor of the device.
2 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein a conductive material is disposed on a surface of the rolling-ball tip, the electrode being formed by the conductive material.
3 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the signal is transmitted while a portion of a surface of the rolling tip is moving relative to the touch sensor of the device.
4 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the electrode is made of a flexible conductive material.
5 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the rolling-ball tip is made of a conductive material forming an electrode.
6 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the electrode transmits the signal to capacitive nodes of the touch sensor of the device.
7 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the signal transmitted by the rolling-ball tip is independent of an angular orientation of the stylus relative to the device.
8 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the electrode receives a signal from the device.
9 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein a portion of a surface of the rolling-ball tip is in contact with the stylus nib.
10 . The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the signal is communicated through the portion of the surface in contact with the stylus nib.
11 . A device comprising:
a stylus nib of a stylus, the stylus nib comprising a tapered end; and
a rolling-ball tip, at least a portion of the rolling-ball tip being housed within the tapered end of the stylus nib, the rolling-ball tip comprising an electrode configured to transmit a signal wirelessly to another device through a touch-sensor of the other device; and
a computer-readable non-transitory storage medium coupled to the rolling-ball tip and embodying logic configured when executed to control transmitting the signal through the electrode.
12 . The device of claim 11 , wherein a conductive material is disposed on a surface of the rolling-ball tip, the electrode being formed by the conductive material.
13 . The device of claim 11 , wherein the signal is transmitted while a portion of a surface of the rolling tip is moving relative to the touch sensor of the other device.
14 . The device of claim 11 , wherein the electrode is made of a flexible conductive material.
15 . The device of claim 11 , wherein the rolling-ball tip is made of a conductive material forming an electrode.
16 . The device of claim 11 , wherein the electrode transmits the signal to capacitive nodes of the touch sensor of the other device.
17 . The device of claim 11 , wherein the signal transmitted by the rolling-ball tip is independent of an angular orientation of the stylus relative to the other device.
18 . The device of claim 11 , wherein the electrode receives a signal from the other device.
19 . The device of claim 11 , wherein a portion of a surface of the rolling-ball tip is in contact with the stylus nib.
20 . The device of claim 19 , wherein the signal is communicated through the portion of the surface in contact with the stylus nib.
