Abstract

The invention is related to methods of inhibiting hepatic fibrosis using A 2B adenosine receptor antagonists and utility in the treatment and prevention of liver damage caused by alcohol abuse, surgical intervention, viral hepatitis, the ingestion of hepatotoxic drugs, or other hepatic diseases. The invention also relates to pharmaceutical compositions for use in the method.

Claims (7)

1. A method of inhibiting hepatic fibrosis as a result of liver replacement or repair in a human in need thereof by administering a therapeutically effective amount of a compound having the name 3-ethyl-1-propyl-8-(1-{[3-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]methyl}pyrazol-4-yl)-1,3,7-trihydropurine-2,6-dione, represented by the chemical formula

or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the compound is administered prior to the liver replacement or repair.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the compound is administered concurrently with the liver replacement or repair.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the compound is administered after the liver replacement or repair.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the compound is administered orally.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the compound is administered by IV.
