Claims (30)

1. A system, comprising:

a processing device; and

a memory device in communication with the processing device, the memory device storing instructions that when executed by the processing device result in:

receiving an indication that a customer is interested in making a purchase from a merchant; and

transmitting, based on the indication from the customer, an offer for a benefit to be applied to a transaction in exchange for a future performance of a task by the customer and a security deposit, wherein the task is associated with a subsidy provider other than the merchant.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the transaction comprises a transaction in which the purchase that the customer is interested in making occurs.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein an amount of the security deposit is equivalent to an amount of the benefit.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the security deposit is provided by a party other than the customer.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein an amount of the security deposit is based on the task.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the stored instructions, when executed by the processing device, further result in:

determining, after the transmitting, that the task has been performed; and

at least one of (i) returning the security deposit to the customer and (ii) releasing the security deposit to the customer.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the security deposit comprises a payment of an amount of frequent flyer miles.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the security deposit comprises an item owned by the customer.

9. The system of claim 1 , wherein the security deposit comprises a reduction in an amount of credit available to the customer.

10. The system of claim 1 , wherein the security deposit comprises a right of the customer to receive payment.

11. A non-transitory computer-readable memory storing instructions that when executed by a processing device result in:

receiving an indication that a customer is interested in making a purchase from a merchant; and

transmitting, based on the indication from the customer, an offer for a benefit to be applied to a transaction in exchange for a future performance of a task by the customer and a security deposit, wherein the task is associated with a subsidy provider other than the merchant.

12. The non-transitory computer-readable memory of claim 11 , wherein the transaction comprises a transaction in which the purchase that the customer is interested in making occurs.

13. The non-transitory computer-readable memory of claim 11 , wherein the security deposit is provided by a party other than the customer.

14. The non-transitory computer-readable memory of claim 11 , wherein an amount of the security deposit is based on the task.

15. The non-transitory computer-readable memory of claim 11 , wherein the stored instructions, when executed by the processing device, further result in:

determining, after the transmitting, that the task has been performed; and

at least one of (i) returning the security deposit to the customer and (ii) releasing the security deposit to the customer.

16. The non-transitory computer-readable memory of claim 11 , wherein the security deposit comprises a payment of an amount of frequent flyer miles.

17. The non-transitory computer-readable memory of claim 11 , wherein the security deposit comprises an item owned by the customer.

18. The non-transitory computer-readable memory of claim 11 , wherein the security deposit comprises a reduction in an amount of credit available to the customer.

19. The non-transitory computer-readable memory of claim 11 , wherein the security deposit comprises a right of the customer to receive payment.

20. The non-transitory computer-readable memory of claim 11 , wherein the transaction comprises a future transaction.
