Abstract

Razor handles are provided for razors having a battery-powered functionality. Methods of manufacturing such handles are also provided. In one implementation, the handle comprises: a load comprising a motor coupled to a power source; a user-operable switch for controlling energy flow between the power source and the load; a control logic; an arming circuit to prevent the user-operable switch from causing drainage of the power source; and a locking circuit that receives a switch signal from the user-operable switch and an arming signal from the arming circuit, wherein the locking circuit outputs a motor control signal to the control logic in response to the states of the switch signal and the arming signal, wherein the arming circuit comprises a timer for changing the state following lapse of a time interval and an arming switch having a first state and a second state.

Claims (18)

1. A razor handle for a shaving razor having a battery-powered functionality, the handle comprising:

a load comprising a motor coupled to a power source;

a user-operable switch for controlling energy flow between the power source and the load;

a control logic;

an arming circuit to prevent the user-operable switch from causing drainage of the power source; and

a locking circuit that receives a switch signal from the user-operable switch and an arming signal from the arming circuit, wherein the locking circuit outputs a motor control signal to the control logic in response to the states of the switch signal and the arming signal, wherein the arming circuit comprises a timer for changing the state following lapse of a time interval and an arming switch having a first state and a second state.

2. The handle of claim 1 , wherein the first state comprises turning off the motor.

3. The handle of claim 1 , wherein the second state permits operation of the user-operable switch.

4. The handle of claim 1 , wherein the time interval is a predetermined time interval.

5. The handle of claim 4 , wherein the arming circuit disarms the locking circuit following the lapse of the predetermined time interval.

6. The handle of claim 1 , wherein the timer comprises a reset input.

7. The handle of claim 6 , wherein the reset input is operably connected to the locking circuit to reset the timer in response to a change in the state of the switch signal.

8. The handle of claim 6 , wherein the reset input is operably connected to the user-operable switch to reset the timer in response to a change in the state of the switch signal.

9. The handle of claim 1 further comprising a pulse-width modulator for providing a pulse train to the motor and having a duty cycle under control by the control logic.

10. The handle of claim 9 , wherein the duty cycle varies in response to a control signal from a speed control switch.

11. The handle of claim 10 , wherein the control signal is dependent on a measurement of a variable voltage provided by a voltage source.

12. The handle of claim 1 , wherein the arming switch is a mechanical switch.

13. The handle of claim 1 , wherein the arming switch is an electronic switch.
