Abstract

Systems, methods, and apparatus for embroidery thread color management are disclosed. An example method comprises determining a first number of thread colors to be used by first designs assigned to a first embroidery machine, determining a second number of thread colors to be used by second designs assigned to a second embroidery machine, determining a difference between a first production time for the first embroidery machine and a second production time for the second embroidery machine, identifying which one of the first designs would increase the second number of thread colors by the smallest number when that one of the first designs is added to the second designs, and moving the identified one of the first designs to the second designs.

Claims (44)

1. A method, comprising:

determining a first number of thread colors to be used by first designs assigned to a first embroidery machine;

determining a second number of thread colors to be used by second designs assigned to a second embroidery machine;

determining a difference between a first production time for the first embroidery machine and a second production time for the second embroidery machine;

identifying which one of the first designs would increase the second number of thread colors by the smallest number when that one of the first designs is added to the second designs; and

moving the identified one of the first designs to the second designs.

2. A method as defined in claim 1 , wherein the identifying and moving are performed only when the first production time is longer than the second production time.

3. A method as defined in claim 1 , further comprising identifying an increase in the second number of thread colors as the smallest increase in respective numbers of thread colors to be used by a plurality of embroidery machines including the first and second embroidery machines.

4. A method as defined in claim 1 , further comprising removing at least one thread color from a list of thread colors for the first embroidery machine.

5. A method as defined in claim 4 , wherein the removed at least one thread color is present in the identified one of the first designs and is not present in the other ones of the first designs.

6. A method as defined in claim 1 , further comprising removing a reference to the identified one of the first designs from a queue of the first embroidery machine.

7. A method as defined in claim 6 , further comprising:

rolling-back an annotation of at least one design occurring after the identified one of the first designs in the queue of the first embroidery machine; and

annotating the at least one design with an embroidery machine identifier corresponding to at least one of the first embroidery machine, the second embroidery machine, or a third embroidery machine.

8. A system, comprising:

a first embroidery machine to embroider first designs;

a second embroidery machine to embroider second designs; and

a computer to:

determine a first number of thread colors to be used by the first designs;

determine a second number of thread colors to be used by the second designs;

determine a difference between a first production time for the first designs and a second production time for the second designs;

identify which one of the first designs would minimize a change to the second number of thread colors when that one of the first designs is added to the second designs; and

move the identified one of the first designs to the second designs.

9. A system as defined in claim 8 , wherein the computer is to identify and move the identified one of the first designs only when the first production time is longer than the second production time.

10. A system as defined in claim 8 , further comprising a third embroidery machine to embroider third designs, wherein the computer is to identify an increase in the second number of thread colors as the smallest increase in respective numbers of thread colors to be used by a plurality of embroidery machines including the first and second embroidery machines.

11. A system as defined in claim 8 , wherein the computer is to remove a reference to the identified one of the first designs from a queue of the first embroidery machine.

12. A system as defined in claim 11 , wherein the computer is to:

roll-back an annotation of at least one design occurring after the identified one of the first designs in the queue of the first embroidery machine; and

annotate the at least one design with an embroidery machine identifier corresponding to at least one of the first embroidery machine, the second embroidery machine, or a third embroidery machine.

13. A system as defined in claim 8 , wherein the computer is to remove at least one thread color from a list of thread colors for the first embroidery machine.

14. A processor platform, comprising a microprocessor programmed to:

determine a first number of thread colors to be used by first designs assigned to a first embroidery machine;

determine a second number of thread colors to be used by second designs assigned to a second embroidery machine;

determine a difference between a first production time for the first embroidery machine and a second production time for the second embroidery machine;

identify which one of the first designs would increase the second number of thread colors by the smallest number when that one of the first designs is added to the second designs; and

move the identified one of the first designs to the second designs.

15. A processor platform as defined in claim 14 , wherein the microprocessor is to identify and move the identified one of the first designs only when the first production time is longer than the second production time.

16. A processor platform as defined in claim 14 , wherein the microprocessor is further programmed to identify an increase in the second number of thread colors as the smallest increase in respective numbers of thread colors to be used by a plurality of embroidery machines including the first and second embroidery machines.

17. A processor platform as defined in claim 14 , wherein the microprocessor is further programmed to remove at least one thread color from a list of thread colors for the first embroidery machine.

18. A processor platform as defined in claim 14 , wherein the removed at least one thread color is present in the identified one of the first designs and is not present in the other ones of the first designs.

19. A processor platform as defined in claim 14 , wherein the microprocessor is further programmed to remove a reference to the identified one of the first designs from a queue of the first embroidery machine.

20. A processor platform as defined in claim 19 , wherein the microprocessor is further programmed to:

roll-back an annotation of at least one design occurring after the identified one of the first designs in the queue of the first embroidery machine; and

annotate the at least one design with an embroidery machine identifier corresponding to at least one of the first embroidery machine, the second embroidery machine, or a third embroidery machine.
