Abstract

A method for managing game accounting on at least one gaming machine comprising one or more active games is provided. The method comprises providing a memory means operatively connected to the gaming machine, wherein the memory means comprises a set of active game meters for each active game on the gaming machine, and one set of removed game meters accumulating data corresponding to all games removed from the gaming machine. Active game data is received and stored in applicable active game meters. For any removed game, the game state data is captured prior to the game's removal and is stored in the applicable accumulating removed game meters. The stored game data is accessed in the active and removed game meters and a theoretical win value is used to determine the overall gaming machine performance.

Claims (22)

1. A gaming machine, comprising: one or more active games;

one or more removed games;

and an accounting system, comprising:

a first type of meter set wherein each active game on the gaming machine comprises a meter set of the first type; and

a second type of meter set associated with all games that have been removed from the gaming machine for accumulating and storing game accounting information associated with the removed games, captured prior to each game's removal from the gaming machine;

wherein the accounting system accesses the first type of meter set and second type of meter set and determines an overall gaming machine performance by comparing a calculated theoretical win value with a return percentage of the gaming machine, wherein the calculated theoretical win value is a theoretical performance of the gaming machine based on a theoretical payout percentage and the first type of meter set and second type of meter set game meters and the return percentage is only based on the first type of meter set and second type of meter set, wherein the theoretical payout percentage is the percentage of winnings a game is programmed to theoretically pay out over time.

2. The gaming machine of claim 1 , wherein the accounting system comprises a memory device for storing data representing the first and second types of meter sets.

3. The gaming machine of claim 1 , wherein each set of active meters in the accounting system comprises one or more of a coin in meter, a coin out meter, an attendant paid jackpot meter, a theoretical win meter, a machine paid progressive meter, an attendant paid progressive meter, and a progressive theoretical win meter.

4. The gaming machine of claim 1 , wherein the set of removed meters in the accounting system comprises one or more of a coin in meter, a coin out meter, an attendant paid jackpot meter, a theoretical win meter, a machine paid progressive meter, an attendant paid progressive meter, and a progressive theoretical win meter.

5. The gaming machine of claim 1 , wherein the accounting system calculates a progressive theoretical win value.

6. The gaming machine of claim 5 , wherein the accounting system stores the calculated progressive theoretical win value in an active meter set.

7. The gaming machine of claim 6 , wherein the accounting system uses the progressive theoretical win value to determine the overall gaming machine performance.

8. The gaming machine of claim 1 , wherein:

the accounting system captures game state data from a game identified to be removed from the gaming machine prior to removing the game; and

the accounting system stores the captured game state data in the removed meter set such that the captured game state data is accumulated in the removed meter set.

9. The game machine of claim 8 , wherein the accounting system restores game state data associated with a previously removed game when the previously removed game is restored on the gaming machine.

10. The game machine of claim 9 , wherein the accounting system determines the overall gaming machine performance by subtracting the restored game state data of the newly restored game from the removed game meter set.

11. The gaming machine of claim 1 , wherein the accounting system provides a new set of active game meters for a game newly added and activated in the gaming machine.

12. The gaming machine of claim 1 , wherein the accounting system continually accesses the active game meter sets and the removed game meter set to track the overall gaming machine performance over time.

13. The system of claim 1 , wherein the accounting system comprises a set of active game meters for the gaming machine as a whole.

14. The gaming machine of claim 1 , operatively connected to an accounting processor, wherein the gaming machine provides data from the first type of meter sets and the second type of meter sets to the accounting processor.

15. The gaming machine of claim 14 , wherein the gaming machine receives a theoretical win value from the accounting processor and stores the calculated theoretical win value in an active game meter.
