Abstract

A flood proof door assembly includes a door supported by hinges in a door jamb frame. A door flange frame is attached to the periphery of the door and includes a gasket that presses on the door jamb frame when the door is closed thereby forming a seal.

Claims (6)

1. A flood proof door assembly for preventing damage by flood water intrusion into an interior of a building, comprising:

a door having an exterior surface and two vertical side surfaces;

a door flange frame consisting of an L-shape having a first portion secured to one of the vertical side surfaces of the door, and a second portion extending parallel to and outwardly of the exterior surface of the door;

a door jamb frame member consisting of an L-shape having a first portion adapted to be secured to the L-shaped door flange frame and to a door jamb frame, and a second portion;

a plurality of hinges pivotably attaching the door flange frame to the second portion of the door jamb frame member; and

a first sealing gasket mounted on an interior surface of the second portion of the door flange frame, wherein the first sealing gasket is in contact with an exterior surface of the second portion of door jamb frame member when the door is installed and in a closed position.
