Abstract

A window covering comprises slats suspended from a tilt cord such that the tilt cord may rotate the slats between an open position and a closed position. An elastic seal is provided on the slats to contact adjacent slats when the slats are in the closed position. A mechanism such as a spring or a magnet applies a closing force to the slats in the closed position separate from the tilt cord where the closing force moves the slats toward one another. An elastic seal is provided on the slats to contact adjacent slats when the slats are in the closed position.

Claims (16)

1. A window covering comprising:

a first slat and a second slat suspended from a tilt cord such that the tilt cord may rotate the first slat and the second slat between an open position and a closed position;

a spring disposed between the tilt cord and the first slat for applying a closing force to the first slat in the closed position where the closing force biases the first slat toward the second slat the tilt cord comprising a rung supported by first and second support cords, the spring being positioned between the run and the first slat.

2. The window covering of claim 1 wherein the closing force biases the first slat away from the rung.

3. The window covering of claim 1 wherein a rear longitudinal edge of the first slat abuts the second slat.

4. The window covering of claim 1 wherein the closing force is selected such that in the open position the first slat compresses the spring and in the closed position the first slat abuts the second slat.

5. The window covering of claim 1 wherein the closing force is selected such that in the open position the first slat compresses the spring such that the first slat is adjacent the rung and in the closed position the first slat abuts the second slat.

6. A window covering comprising:

a first slat, a second slat, a third slat and a fourth slat suspended from a tilt cord such that the tilt cord may rotate the first slat and the second slat between an open position and a closed position and the third slat and the fourth slat between the open position and the closed position;

a first spring disposed between the tilt cord and the first slat for applying a first closing force to the first slat in the closed position where the first closing force biases the first slat toward the second slat; and

a second spring disposed between the tilt cord and the third slat for applying a second closing force to the third slat in the closed position where the second closing force biases the third slat toward the fourth slat.

7. The window covering of claim 6 wherein the tilt cord comprises a first rung and a second rung supported by first and second support cords, the first spring being positioned between the first rung and the first slat and the second spring being positioned between the second rung and the third slat.

8. The window covering of claim 6 wherein the first and second closing forces bias the first slat away from the first rung and the third slat away from the second rung.

9. The window covering of claim 6 wherein a rear longitudinal edge of the first slat abuts the second slat a rear longitudinal edge of the third slat abuts the fourth slat.

10. The window covering of claim 6 wherein the first and second closing forces are selected such that in the open position the first slat compresses the first spring and the third slat compresses the second spring and in the closed position the first slat abuts the second slat and the third slat abuts the fourth slat.

11. The window covering of claim 7 wherein the first and second closing forces are selected such that in the open position the first slat compresses the first spring such that the first slat is adjacent the first rung and the third slat compresses the second spring such that the third slat is adjacent the second rung, and in the closed position the first slat abuts the second slat and the third slat abuts the fourth slat.
