Abstract

A housing including a plurality of openings for receiving fiber optic connectors and protecting the polished end face of the connectors from damage while the connectors are stored within a telecommunications connection cabinet. A module with a plurality of optical fiber cables connected to a first optical fiber cable and terminated by a fiber optic connector. Each of the connectors are inserted within openings in a connector holder for storage and protection until the cables need to be connected to a customer equipment cable.

Claims (20)

1. A fiber optic device for use in a telecommunications cabinet having a splitter mounting area and a separate connector storage area, the fiber optic device comprising:

a connector holder block for releasably holding a plurality of fiber optic connectors, the fiber optic connectors including polished end faces, and wherein when the fiber optic connectors are held by the connector holder block the polished end faces are enclosed and protected by either dust caps or closed-ended openings of the connector holder block; and

the connector holder block having a first end positioned opposite from a second end, and wherein a first retention portion is unitary with the first end and a second retention portion is unitary with the second end, wherein the first and second retention portions releasably mount the connector holder block at the connector storage area of the cabinet separate from the splitter mounting area.

2. The fiber optic device of claim 1 , wherein the connector holder block includes a latch for releasably mounting the connector holder block at the connector storage area of the cabinet.

3. The fiber optic device of claim 1 , wherein the polished end -faces are enclosed and protected by the dust caps when the fiber optic connectors are held by the connector holder block.

4. The fiber optic device of claim 1 , wherein the polished end faces are enclosed and protected by the closed-ended openings of the connector holder block when the fiber optic connectors are held by the connector holder block.

5. The fiber optic device of claim 1 , wherein the connector holder block is configured to hold eight of the fiber optic connectors in a row.

6. The fiber optic device of claim 1 , wherein the connector holder block includes a plurality of openings for receiving the fiber optic connectors.

7. The fiber optic device of claim 6 , wherein latches are provided for retaining the fiber optic connectors within the openings.

8. The fiber optic device of claim 1 , wherein the connector holder block releasably holds the plurality of the fiber optic connectors in a row.

9. The fiber optic device of claim 1 , wherein the fiber optic connectors terminate splitter pigtails that extend from an exit member projecting outwardly from a splitter module.

10. The fiber optic device of claim 1 , wherein the first retention portion is a latch and the second retention portion is a tab.

11. A fiber optic device comprising:

a connector holder unit having a block-style configuration, the connector holder unit being configured to releasably hold a plurality of fiber optic connectors, the fiber optic connectors including polished end faces, and wherein when the fiber optic connectors are held by the connector holder unit the polished end faces are enclosed and protected by either dust caps or closed-ended openings of the connector holder unit, the connector holder unit being a stand-alone component not integrated with an optical splitter module and the connector holder unit being configured to be releasably attached to a panel.

12. The fiber optic device of claim 11 , wherein the polished end -faces are enclosed and protected by the dust caps when the fiber optic connectors are held by the connector holder unit.

13. The fiber optic device of claim 11 , wherein the polished end faces are enclosed and protected by the closed-ended openings of the connector holder unit when the fiber optic connectors are held by the connector holder unit.

14. The fiber optic device of claim 11 , wherein the connector holder unit is configured to hold eight of the fiber optic connectors in a row.

15. The fiber optic device of claim 11 , wherein the connector holder unit has a first end positioned opposite from a second end, and wherein a latch is positioned at the first end and a tab is positioned at the second end.

16. The fiber optic device of claim 11 , wherein the connector holder unit includes a plurality of openings for receiving the fiber optic connectors.

17. The fiber optic device of claim 16 , wherein latches are provided for retaining the fiber optic connectors within the openings.
