Abstract

A system and method of synchronization protocol for fire alarm strobe systems which has the ability to synchronize the strobe light devices from different manufactures simultaneously.

Claims (33)

1. A method of synchronizing strobe light devices comprising:

determining a first synchronization protocol used by a first group of strobe light devices;

determining a second synchronization protocol used by a second group of strobe light devices, the second synchronization protocol being different from the first;

programing a power supply to provide said first synchronization protocol on a first circuit and said second synchronization protocol on a second circuit;

electrically connecting said first group of strobe light devices to said first circuit and said second group of strobe light devices to said second circuit; and

simultaneously triggering both said circuits to generate said first and second synchronization protocols so that said first group of strobe lights and said second group of strobe lights flash in sync.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein both said first and said second groups of strobe lights meet the UL 1971 timing requirements.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein said triggering is performed by an on/off trigger.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein said triggering is performed by a sync follow trigger.

5. A method for creating a synchronization protocol for the synchronization of strobe light devices from different manufacturers in which a trigger pulse unrelated to any of said strobe light devices from different manufacturers is utilized, the method comprising:

waiting for a trigger to activate;

verifying said trigger is present for a minimum period of time;

locating a leading edge of a first sync pulse within said trigger;

obtaining a time stamp for said leading edge of said first sync pulse;

locating a trailing edge of said first sync pulse;

if said trailing edge of said first sync pulse is not detected, then determining that said trigger is not active and reverting back to said step of waiting for said trigger to activate;

if said trailing edge of said first sync pulse is detected, then waiting for a leading edge of a second sync pulse;

obtaining a time stamp for said leading edge of said second sync pulse;

calculating a period of said trigger;

synchronizing an output pattern generator to produce an output pattern based on said time stamp of said leading edge of said second sync pulse and said period;

locating a trailing edge of said second sync pulse;

if said trailing edge is detected, waiting for a leading edge of a third sync pulse; and

if said trailing edge of said second sync pulse is not detected, then determining that said trigger is not active and reverting back to said step of waiting for said trigger to activate.

6. A device for the creation of a synchronization protocol for the synchronization of strobe lights comprising:

a power supply system programmed to provide a synchronization protocol for a plurality of circuits, a first circuit in said plurality of circuits having a first strobe light thereon and a second circuit in said plurality of circuits having a second strobe light thereon; and

a trigger signal input into said power supply system;

wherein when said trigger signal is received, said first circuit and said second circuit are activated;

wherein said first circuit transmits a first synchronization protocol and said second circuit transmits a second synchronization protocol, said first synchronization protocol and said second synchronization protocol being different;

wherein said first synchronization protocol instructs said first strobe light to strobe, and said second synchronization protocol instructs said second strobe light to strobe; and

wherein said first strobe light and said second strobe light flash in sync.

7. The device of claim 6 , wherein the trigger signal is an on/off trigger.

8. The device of claim 6 , wherein the trigger signal is a sync follow trigger.

9. The device of claim 6 , wherein each of said first and said second synchronization protocols generated will meet the UL 1971 timing requirements for said first and said second strobe lights.
