View Patent ↗A system that maps media content information to an interactive program guide displayed on a screen includes, among other things, a memory with logic, and a processor configured with the logic to display at least one personal video recording display channel in the interactive program guide. The processor is further preferably configured with the logic to display media content instance listings in the personal video recording display channel for corresponding media content instance recordings.
1. A method for mapping media content information to an interactive program guide display, the method comprising:
recording a media content instance on a storage device of a digital home communication terminal device, the recorded media content instance listed as a personal video recording in a personal video recording display channel;
displaying the personal video recording display channel via an output system of the digital home communication terminal device that drives a display device, the personal video recording display channel included in the display of an interactive program guide, the interactive program guide comprising a plurality of channels identifying media content listings corresponding to future broadcasts of media content instances and in-progress broadcasts of media content instances and including a time area display section;
enabling a configuration of the time area display section of the interactive program guide displayed via the output system for the display device, wherein the configuration comprises altering the time area display section of the interactive program guide while displaying the plurality of channels in the interactive program guide to depict a scrolling ticker banner upon highlighting the recorded media content instance on the personal video recording display channel; and
selecting the recorded media content instance highlighted in the personal video recording display channel in the interactive program guide, accessing the recorded media content instance from the storage device, and playing back the recorded media content instance on the display device via the output system of the digital home communication terminal device.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the configuration further comprises altering the time display area section of the interactive program guide to depict an index number corresponding to a number for a recorded sequence of the recorded media content instance.
3. An apparatus comprising:
a communication interface of a digital communication terminal device to receive media content and program guide information relating to the media content:
a storage device to record a media content instance, the recorded media content instance listed as a personal video recording in a personal video recording display channel;
an output interface to drive an external display; and
a processor configured to:
drive the output interface providing display information comprising an interactive program guide including the personal video recording display channel, the interactive program guide further including a plurality of channels identifying media content listings corresponding to future broadcasts of media content instances and in-progress broadcasts of media content instances and including a time area display section;
configure the time area display section in the interactive program guide wherein the time area display section of the interactive program guide is configured while displaying the plurality of channels in the interactive program guide to depict a scrolling ticker banner displayed upon highlighting of the recorded media content instance on the personal video recording display channel in the interactive program guide;
retrieve the highlighted recorded media content instance from the storage device after the highlighted recorded media content instance is selected; and
drive the output interface providing display content for the retrieved recorded media content instance to the external display.
4. The apparatus of claim 3 , wherein the communication interface is a network interface to a headend providing the media content and the program guide information.
5. The apparatus of claim 3 , wherein the output interface drives an interface to a television as a display device.
6. The apparatus of claim 3 , wherein the processor is configured to alter the time area display section of the interactive program guide to depict an index number corresponding to a number for a recorded sequence of the recorded media content instance.
