Abstract

Caller ID information directed to a user's mobile phone is delivered to the user's home television set for viewing. A determination is made as to whether the mobile phone is within a home zone associated with the user. The determining is performed at a network element within a mobile communications network that provides carrier service to the mobile phone. A presence indication is stored in a database indicating whether the mobile phone is within the home zone associated with the user. When the mobile phone is within the home zone, and based on a user authorization to provide to a video provider information associated with calls, then, for a call to the mobile phone, sending a calling phone identification and a mobile phone destination number to the video provider for insertion of the calling phone identification into a video stream for delivery to the video display device.

Claims (25)

1. One or more non-transitory computer-readable media having embodied thereon computer-useable instructions that, when executed by one or more computing devices, perform a method for providing information regarding an incoming call destined for a mobile phone associated with a user, based on a location of the mobile phone, for delivery to a video display device associated with the user, the method comprising: determining whether the mobile phone is within a home zone associated with the user, wherein the determining is performed at a network element within a mobile communications network that provides carrier service to the mobile phone; storing in a database associated with the network element a presence indication that indicates whether the mobile phone is within the home zone associated with the user; when the presence indication indicates that the mobile phone is within the home zone, and based on a user authorization to provide to a video provider information associated with calls, then, for a call to the mobile phone, sending a calling phone identification and a mobile phone destination number to the video provider for insertion of the calling phone identification into a video stream for delivery to the video display device.

2. The media of claim 1 , wherein the home zone associated with the user is defined as a spatial area within a certain distance of one of:

a mobile switching center serving as a home center for the mobile phone; or

a second mobile switching center serving as a home center for the mobile phone, the second mobile switching center being in communication with the mobile switching center receiving the call from the calling phone.

3. The media of claim 1 , wherein determining if the mobile phone is within a home zone involves locating the mobile phone by one of GPS location techniques or triangulation.

4. The media of claim 2 , wherein determining if the mobile phone is within the home zone involves communication activities between the mobile phone and the home center.

5. The media of claim 1 , wherein determining if the mobile phone is within the home zone involves retrieving the presence indication for the mobile phone from a database accessible to the network element.

6. The media of claim 1 , the method further comprising:

registering an occurrence of the mobile phone ceasing to ring for the call from the calling phone; and

transmitting a signal to the video provider to cease insertion of the information regarding the incoming call into the video stream being delivered to the video display device.

7. One or more non-transitory computer-readable media having embodied thereon computer-useable instructions that, when executed by one or more computing devices, perform a method for providing, to a user-associated video provider, information regarding an incoming call destined for and based on a location of a user-associated mobile phone (“mobile phone”), the method comprising: receiving, at a mobile switching center, information associated with a call placed from a calling phone to the mobile phone, the received information including an identification of the calling phone and a destination number assigned to the mobile phone, wherein the mobile phone is registered to a first user; determining if the mobile phone is within a home zone associated with the first user based at least in part on Global Positioning System (GPS) coordinates of the mobile phone; when a determination is made that the mobile phone is within the home zone associated with the first user, then, based on a user authorization to provide to the user-associated video provider information associated with calls, sending the identification information for the calling phone and the destination number of the mobile phone to the user-associated video provider for insertion of the calling phone identification information into a video stream for delivery to a video display device registered to the first user; registering an occurrence of the mobile phone ceasing to ring for the call from the calling phone; and based on registering the occurrence of the mobile phone ceasing to ring, sending a signal to the user-associated video provider to cease insertion of the calling phone identification information into the video stream.

8. The media of claim 7 , wherein determining if the mobile phone is within the home zone includes comparing the GPS coordinates of the mobile phone with a preestablished GPS location for the home zone.

9. The media of claim 7 , wherein determining if the mobile phone is within the home zone is performed periodically.

10. The media of claim 7 , wherein determining if the mobile phone is within the home zone involves retrieving a presence condition for the mobile phone from a database accessible to the mobile switching center.

11. One or more non-transitory computer-readable media having embodied thereon computer-useable instructions that, when executed by one or more computing devices, perform a method for providing information regarding an incoming call destined for a mobile phone associated with a user, based on a location of the mobile phone,

for delivery to a video display device associated with the user, the method comprising:

determining whether the mobile phone is within a home zone associated with the user based at least in part on Global Positioning System (GPS) coordinates of the mobile phone; storing in a database a presence indication that indicates whether the mobile phone is within the home zone associated with the user; when the presence indication indicates that the mobile phone is within the home zone, and based on a user authorization to provide to a video provider information associated with calls, then, for a call to the mobile phone, sending a calling phone identification and a mobile phone destination number to the video provider for insertion of the calling phone identification into a video stream for delivery to the video display device.

12. The media of claim 11 , wherein determining if the mobile phone is within the home zone includes comparing the GPS coordinates of the mobile phone with a preestablished GPS location for the user's home zone.

13. The media of claim 11 , wherein determining if the mobile phone is within the home zone is performed periodically.

14. The media of claim 11 , wherein the home zone for the user is defined as a spatial area within a certain distance of one of:

the mobile switching center serving as a home center for the mobile phone; or

a second mobile switching center serving as a home center for the mobile phone, the second mobile switching center being in communication with the mobile switching center receiving the call from the calling phone.

15. The media of claim 11 , the method further comprising:

registering an occurrence of the mobile phone ceasing to ring for the call from the calling phone; and

transmitting a signal to the video provider to cease insertion of the information regarding the incoming call into the video stream being delivered to the video display device.
