Abstract

An LED light and communication system includes at least one optical transceiver, the optical transceiver including a light support and a processor. The light support has a plurality of light emitting diodes and at least one photodetector attached thereto. The processor is in communication with the light emitting diodes and the at least one photodetector, where the processor is constructed and arranged to illuminate at least one of the light emitting diodes to generate a light signal which in turn includes at least one embedded data packet. The at least one embedded data packet communicates global positioning system (GPS) location information.

Claims (29)

1. An LED light and communication system comprising:

at least one optical transceiver, the optical transceiver comprising:

a light support having a plurality of light emitting diodes and at least one photodetector attached thereto, the light emitting diodes receiving power from a power source, the plurality of light emitting diodes generating illumination observable to the unaided eyes of an individual, said illumination comprising a plurality of flashes of illumination, said flashes of illumination not being observable to the unaided eyes of an individual;

a processor in communication with the light emitting diodes and the at least one photodetector, the processor being constructed and arranged to regulate said plurality of flashes of illumination into at least one communication signal, said at least one communication signal comprising global positioning system (GPS) location information.

2. The system of claim 1 , the at least one communication signal comprising at least one data packet.

3. The system of claim 1 , the at least one optical transceiver comprising a destination optical transceiver, wherein the at least one communication signal includes the GPS location information of the destination optical transceiver.

4. The system of claim 3 , the at least one optical transceiver further comprising an origin optical transceiver, wherein the at least one communication signal includes the GPS location information of the origin optical transceiver.

5. The system of claim 4 , the at least one optical transceiver further comprising an origin optical transceiver and a second optical transceiver between the origin optical transceiver and the destination optical transceiver, wherein the at least one communication signal includes the GPS location information of the origin optical transceiver and the second optical transceiver.

6. In combination, the system of claim 1 and a broadband over power line communications system.

7. The combination of claim 6 , comprising a power line bridge.

8. The combination of claim 7 , wherein the power line bridge comprises an optical transceiver.

9. The combination of claim 8 , wherein the power line bridge is in operative communication with the at least one optical transceiver.

10. The combination of claim 7 , wherein the LED light and communication system is in communication with an operating system for a structure.

11. The combination of claim 7 , wherein the LED light and communication system is in communication with a security system for a structure.

12. The combination of claim 7 , wherein the LED light and communication system is in communication with a security system for a structure and an operating system for the structure.

13. The combination of claim 12 , said LED light and communication system further comprising an ID badge.

14. The combination of claim 13 , wherein the ID badge includes a unique identifier.

15. An LED light and communication system comprising:

at least one optical transceiver, the optical transceiver comprising:

a light support having a plurality of light emitting diodes and at least one photodetector attached thereto, the light emitting diodes receiving power from a power source, the plurality of light emitting diodes generating illumination observable to the unaided eyes of an individual, said illumination comprising a plurality of flashes of illumination, said flashes of illumination not being observable to the unaided eyes of an individual;

a processor in communication with the light emitting diodes and the at least one photodetector, the processor being constructed and arranged to regulate said plurality of flashes of illumination into at least one communication signal wherein the at least one communication signal comprises global positioning system (GPS) routing information; and

wherein the at least one optical transceiver is constructed and arranged to allow parallel communication using said light emitting diodes.

16. The system of claim 15 , the at least one communication signal comprising at least one data packet and wherein each of the plurality of light emitting diodes acts as a separate transmission channel.

17. An LED light and communication system comprising:

at least one optical transceiver, the optical transceiver comprising:

a light support having a plurality of light emitting diodes and at least one photodetector attached thereto, the light emitting diodes receiving power from a power source, the plurality of light emitting diodes generating illumination observable to the unaided eyes of an individual, said illumination comprising a plurality of flashes of illumination, said flashes of illumination not being observable to the unaided eyes of an individual;

a processor in communication with the light emitting diodes and the at least one photodetector, the processor being constructed and arranged to regulate said plurality of flashes of illumination into at least one communication signal and wherein the at least one communication signal comprises global positioning system (GPS) routing information; and

at least one power line bridge, the at least one bridge being in electrical communication with a building's electrical wiring, the at least one power line bridge constructed and arranged to demodulate modulated Internet signals from the electrical wiring, the at least one power line bridge being in operative communication with the at least one optical transceiver.
