Abstract

Platinum and palladium complexes are disclosed that can be useful as narrow band phosphorescent emitters. Also disclosed are methods for preparing and using the platinum and palladium complexes.

Claims (23)

1. A complex of the formula:

wherein:

M is platinum or palladium,

Ar 1 is a substituted or unsubstituted pyridinyl, isoquinolinyl, quinazolinyl, or imidazolyl ring when M is palladium, and Ar 1 is a substituted or unsubstituted pyridinyl, isoquinolinyl, quinazolinyl, imidazolyl pyrazolyl, quinolinyl, triazolyl, benzimidazolyl, benzoxazolyl, or benzothiazolyl ring when M is platinum,

each of Ar 2 , Ar 3 , and Ar 4 is independently a substituted or unsubstituted phenyl or pyridyl ring;

Ar 5 is a substituted or unsubstituted phenyl ring,

Ar 6 is a substituted or unsubstituted phenyl ring, or is absent,

each of X 1 , X 2 , X 3 , and X 4 is independently a carbon or nitrogen atom,

each of A 1 and A 2 is independently a nitrogen, carbon, boron, phosphorus, or silicon atom, and each of A 1 and A 2 is independently optionally substituted, and

each of b 1 and b 2 is independently present or absent, and if present is an oxygen, sulfur, nitrogen, carbon, boron, phosphorus, or silicon atom.

2. The complex of claim 1 , wherein:
