Abstract

A system and method for using product profiling to maximize load capacity of a vehicle. The method includes defining product profiles and retrieving product information associated with the product profiles. The method further includes performing cubing operations for products associated with the product information. The system includes components to perform the method steps.

Claims (26)

1 . A method comprising:

performing a past time period shipment inventory;

retrieving, by a processor, information for products associated with the past time period shipment inventory;

determining that the retrieved information is for products still in existence; and

cubing the products associated with the retrieved information for future shipment, when the products were not previously subject to cubing operations.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein:

when the products are still in existence, the products remain on a list for the future shipping; and

when the products are not in existence, replacement products are placed on the list for the future shipping.

3 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising placing new products on the list for future shipment when the replacement products are not in existence.

4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the new products have a profitability or sales over a threshold amount.

5 . The method of claim 3 , further comprising:

preparing a list of product to be loaded for future shipment;

storing the list in a profiling system with a vehicle type ID identifying the vehicle, a date the products were ordered, each product in the vehicle, a maximum volume and weight for the vehicle, a number of times a vehicle type has been purchased, and a customer that purchased the products to be loaded into the vehicle.

6 . A computer program product comprising a computer usable storage medium having readable program code embodied in the storage medium, the computer program product includes at least one component operable to:

perform a past time period shipment inventory, the shipment inventory including determining which shipment included product that was most profitable;

retrieve information for products associated with the past time period shipment inventory;

determine that the retrieved information is for products still in existence; and

cube the products associated with the retrieved information for future shipment, when the products were not previously subject to cubing operations.

7 . The computer program product of claim 6 , wherein:

when the products are still in existence, the products remain on a list for the future shipping; and

when the products are not in existence, replacement products are placed on the list for the future shipping.

8 . The computer program product of claim 7 , wherein the at least one component is further operable to place new products on the list for future shipment when the replacement products are not in existence.

9 . The computer program product of claim 8 , wherein the new products have a profitability or sales over a threshold amount.

10 . The computer program product of claim 9 , wherein the at least one component is further operable to:

prepare a list of product to be loaded for future shipment;

store the list in a profiling system with a vehicle type ID identifying the vehicle, a date the products were ordered, each product in the vehicle, a maximum volume and weight for the vehicle, a number of times a vehicle type has been purchased, and a customer that purchased the products to be loaded into the vehicle.
