Abstract

Systems and methods for enabling a user to interact with a medical imaging system using a touch screen display are disclosed. In certain embodiments, a primary imaging area displaying images captured by the medical imaging system may be displayed in a first area of the touch screen display. A touchpad configured to receive input from a user may be displayed in a second area of the touch screen display that is different than the first area. Input provided by the user using the touchpad display may be used to control and/or interact with the medical imaging system. By utilizing a touchpad displayed separate from the primary imaging area, a user may precisely position a cursor, annotation, and/or measurement marker point within the primary imaging area without obscuring the primary imaging area with their body.

Claims (26)

1 . A method performed by a medical imaging system comprising a touch screen display, a processor, and a non-transitory computer readable medium, the non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to:

display a primary imaging area in a first area of the touch screen display, the primary imaging area being configured to display images captured by the medical imaging system;

display a touchpad in a second area of the touch screen display separate from the first area, the touchpad being configured to receive input from a user; and

control the operation of the medical imaging system based, at least in part, on input received from the user using the touchpad.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the medical imaging system comprises an ultrasound imaging system.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the instructions are further configured to cause the processor to display a set button proximate to the touchpad, the set button being configured to receive input from the user.

The method of claim 1 , wherein the instructions are further configured to cause the processor to control the operation of the medical imaging system by controlling the position of a cursor displayed on the touch screen display based on input related to a relative contact position with the user on the touchpad.

The method of claim 1 , wherein the instructions are further configured to cause the processor to control the operation of the medical imaging system by controlling the position of an annotation displayed on the touch screen display based on input related to a relative contact position with the user on the touchpad.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the instructions are further configured to cause the processor to control the operation of the medical imaging system by controlling the position of one or more measurement marker points on the touch screen display.

8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the instructions are further configured to cause the processor to display a measurement on the touch screen display based on a relative position of the one or more measurement marker points.

The method of claim 1 , wherein the instructions are further configured to cause the processor to control the operation of the medical imaging system by controlling the orientation of a cursor displayed on the touch screen display based on received input related to one or more relative contact positions with the user on the touchpad.

The method of claim 1 , wherein the instructions are further configured to cause the processor to control the operation of the medical imaging system by controlling the orientation of an annotation displayed on the touch screen display based on received input related to one or more relative contact positions with the user on the touchpad.

The method of claim 1 , wherein the images captured by the medical imaging system are 3-dimensional, and wherein the instructions are further configured to cause the processor to control the operation of the medical imaging system by controlling the relative depth of the 3-dimensional images displayed on the touch screen display based on received input related to a plurality of contact positions with the user on the touchpad.

12 . A medical imaging system comprising:

an imaging system configured to capture one or more medical images; and

a touch screen display communicatively coupled with the imaging system, the touch screen display being configured to display the one or more medicals images captured by the imaging system in a first area of the touch screen display and to display a touchpad in a second area of the touch screen display separate from the first area,

wherein the touchpad is configured to receive input from a user and the operation of the medical imaging system is configured to be controlled, at least in part, based on input received from the user using the touchpad.

13 . The medical imaging system of claim 12 , wherein the imaging system comprises an ultrasound imaging system.

14 . The medical imaging system of claim 12 , wherein the touch screen display is further configured to display a set button proximate to the touchpad, the set button being configured to receive input from the user.

15 . The medical imaging system of claim 12 , wherein the medical imaging system is configured to be controlled in part by controlling the position of a cursor displayed on the touch screen display based on input related to a relative contact position with the user on the touchpad.

16 . The medical imaging system of claim 12 , wherein the medical imaging system is configured to be controlled in part by controlling the position of an annotation displayed on the touch screen display based on input related to a relative contact position with the user on the touchpad.

17 . The medical imaging system of claim 12 , wherein the wherein the medical imaging system is configured to be controlled in part by controlling the position of one or more measurement marker points on the touch screen display.

18 . The medical imaging system of claim 17 , wherein the touch screen display is further configured to display a measurement based on a relative position of the one or more measurement marker points.

The medical imaging system of claim 12 , wherein the wherein the medical imaging system is configured to be controlled in part by controlling the orientation of a cursor displayed on the touch screen display based on received input related to one or more relative contact positions with the user on the touchpad.

The medical imaging system of claim 12 , wherein the wherein the medical imaging system is configured to be controlled in part by controlling the orientation of an annotation displayed on the touch screen display based on received input related to one or more relative contact positions with the user on the touchpad.

The medical imaging system of claim 12 , wherein one or more medical images are 3-dimensional, and wherein the medical imaging system is configured to be controlled in part by controlling the relative depth of the one or more 3-dimensional medical images displayed on the touch screen display based on received input related to a plurality of contact positions with the user on the touchpad.
