Abstract

A method and system for enabling coexistence of a plurality of communication technologies in a communication device is provided. The method includes determining a time offset between a first communication event of a first communication technology of the plurality of communication technologies and a second communication event of a second communication technology of the plurality of communication technologies. The method further includes altering a first communication state of one or more of the first communication technology and the second communication technology to a second communication state based on one or more of the time offset and a plurality of parameters of one or more of the first communication technology and the second communication technology.

Claims (30)

1. A communication device, comprising:

a first communication modem configured to operate according to a first communication technology;

a second communication modem configured to operate according to a second communication technology; and

a processor configured to determine a time offset between a first communication event of the first communication technology and a second communication event of the second communication technology, and to alter a first communication state of at least one of the first communication technology and the second communication technology to a second communication state based on the time offset,

wherein the first communication state and the second communication state each defines a different respective sequence of at least one of an availability period and an unavailability period.

2. The communication device of claim 1 , wherein the processor is further configured to retrieve the second communication state from a database based on the time offset.

3. The communication device of claim 2 , wherein the database is located in the communication device.

4. The communication device of claim 1 , wherein the processor is further configured to send a communication message to a Base Station (BS) to alter the first communication state to the second communication state.

5. The communication device of claim 1 , wherein the first communication technology is WiMAX, and wherein the first communication event is one of a DL sub-frame and an UL sub-frame.

6. The communication device of claim 5 , wherein the second communication technology is Bluetooth, and wherein the second communication event is one of a SCO slot, an eSCO reserved slot, an eSCO retransmission slot, an eSCO slot pair, a SCO slop pair, a WeSCO interval, a TeSCO interval, and a TSCO interval.

7. The communication device of claim 6 , wherein the first communication event is the DL sub-frame and the second communication event is the eSCO slot pair.

8. The communication device of claim 1 , wherein the availability period corresponds to a listening window and the unavailability period corresponds to a sleep window.

9. A method for coexistence of a first communication technology and a second communication technology in a communication device, comprising:

determining a time offset between a first communication event of the first communication technology and a second communication event of the second communication technology: and

altering a first communication state of at least one of the first communication technology and the second communication technology to a second communication state based on the time offset,

wherein the first communication state and the second communication state each defines a different respective sequence of at least one of an availability period and an unavailability period.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein determining the time offset comprises determining the time offset between one of beginning and end of the first communication event and one of beginning and end of the second communication event.

11. The method of claim 9 , further comprising retrieving the second communication state from a database based on the time offset.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the database is located in the communication device.

13. The method of claim 9 , wherein altering the first communication state comprises sending a communication message to a Base Station (BS) to alter the first communication state to the second communication state.

14. The method of claim 9 , wherein the first communication technology is WiMAX, and wherein the first communication event is one of a DL sub-frame and an UL sub-frame.

15. The method of claim 14 , wherein the second communication technology is Bluetooth, and wherein the second communication event is one of a SCO slot, an eSCO reserved slot, an eSCO retransmission slot, an eSCO slot pair, a SCO slop pair, a WeSCO interval, a TeSCO interval, and a TSCO interval.

16. The method of claim 15 , wherein the first communication event is the DL sub-frame and the second communication event is the eSCO slot pair.

17. The method of claim 9 , wherein the availability period corresponds to a listening window and the unavailability period corresponds to a sleep window.

18. A system for coexistence of a first communication technology and a second communication technology, comprising:

a communication device configured to determine a time offset between a first communication event of the first communication technology and a second communication event of the second communication technology; and

a base station (BS), operatively coupled with the communication device, configured to alter a first communication state of at least one of the first communication technology and the second communication technology to a second communication state based on the time offset,

wherein the first communication state and the second communication state each defines a different respective sequence of at least one of an availability period and an unavailability period.

19. The system of claim 18 , wherein the communication device is located in a Mobile Station (MS).

20. The system of claim 18 , wherein the availability period corresponds to a listening window and the unavailability period corresponds to a sleep window.
