Compressed gas-powered projectile accelerator
View Patent ↗A pneumatic assembly for a paintball gun is provided. The pneumatic assembly includes a valve stem, and a bolt slidably mounted on the valve stem. The bolt includes at least one bolt port arranged through a sidewall of the bolt. A sealing member is provided on the valve stem in communication with an inner surface of the bolt. The bolt slides from a rearward position to a forward position along the valve stem. Compressed gas flows through the bolt port and through the bolt aperture to fire a projectile when the bolt is in the forward position. A paintball gun incorporating the pneumatic assembly is also provided.
1. A compressed gas gun, comprising:
a stationary housing including a compressed gas receiving portion configured to receive compressed gas from a source of compressed gas;
a housing passage arranged within the housing;
a bolt having a bolt passage slidably arranged within the housing passage moveable between a rearward position and a forward position, the bolt having a bolt opening in a forward portion of the bolt, wherein movement of the bolt relative to the housing from the rearward position to the forward position opens a flow path providing communication between the compressed gas receiving portion of the housing and the bolt opening, the bolt having an increased diameter portion adjacent its rearward end; and
a valve providing selective communication between a source of compressed gas and a forward facing portion of the bolt to move the bolt to a rearward position.
2. The paintball gun of claim 1 , wherein a stationary housing extension portion extends from a rear portion of the passage and is received in the bolt passage adjacent a rear portion of the bolt.
3. The compressed gas-powered gun of claim 2 , wherein the housing extension further comprises a plurality of holes, the holes providing communication between the compressed gas receiving portion and the bolt passage.

The paintball gun of claim 1 , wherein a sealing member is provided in the housing configured to prevent the bolt opening from receiving compressed gas from the compressed gas receiving portion when the bolt is in a rearward position to allow the bolt opening to receive compressed gas from the compressed gas receiving portion when the bolt is in a forward position.
5. The compressed gas-powered gun of claim 4 , wherein the sealing member is provided on an outer surface of the stationary housing extension portion and is in contact with an inner surface of the bolt.
6. The compressed gas-powered gun of claim 1 , wherein the valve is electronically actuated.
7. The compressed gas-powered gun of claim 6 , further comprising a control circuit for controlling a firing operation of the gun.
8. The compressed gas-powered gun of claim 7 , wherein the control circuit comprises a pressure sensor.
