Abstract

In a liquid crystal display device including a TFT substrate and a counter substrate, when an organic passivation film is not formed in the TFT substrate, the distance between the TFT substrate and the counter substrate in the display area of a liquid crystal display panel is provided by a cylindrical spacer. Also, the distance in the area where pixels, scan lines, and image signal lines are not formed within the liquid crystal display panel is provided by the cylindrical spacer. In this case, it is necessary to form a mount. The layer structure of the mount is the same as that of the TFT substrate with which the cylindrical spacer in the display area comes into contact. This makes it possible to equalize the distance of the liquid crystal layer of the liquid crystal display panel without an increase in production cost, and to prevent uneven brightness or color.

Claims (14)

1. A liquid crystal display device comprising a liquid crystal display panel including a TFT substrate and a counter substrate facing the TFT substrate through a sealing material, with a liquid crystal sandwiched between the TFT substrate and the counter substrate, the TFT substrate is larger than the counter substrate, a plurality of scan lines and a plurality of image signal lines are formed in the TFT substrate,

wherein a display area where pixels are formed inside the sealing material,

wherein a flattening film of organic material is not formed the display area,

wherein a first cylindrical spacer is formed within the display area in the counter substrate,

wherein the first cylindrical spacer is in contact with a first layer structure in the TFT substrate,

wherein the first layer structure is formed at a position where a TFT is not formed and in the display area,

wherein a second cylindrical spacer is formed between the sealing material and the display area in the counter substrate,

wherein a second layer structure is formed between the sealing material and the display area in the TFT substrate, the second layer structure has a metal layer,

wherein the second cylindrical spacer is in contact with the second layer structure,

wherein the metal layer of the second layer structure is floating,

wherein an outside area of the TFT substrate does not overlap the counter substrate, a terminal portion is formed in the outside area,

wherein an image signal line leader and a scan line leader are formed in the outside area the image signal line leader connected to the image signal line, and the scan line leader connected to the scan line,

wherein a cylindrical spacer mount is formed in the outside area where the image signal line leader and the scan line leader are not formed, and

wherein the cylindrical spacer mount formed in the terminal portion has the same layer structure as the first layer structure.
