Abstract

Example systems and methods that allow access to a value holding account are described. In one implementation, a method receives a first request for a second account code after activation of a selector on an account access object associated with a value holding account. The second account access code is associated with a first account access code that is associated with the value holding account. The first account code allows access to the value holding account for a first determinable period. The method generates a second request for the second account code and communicates the second request to the value holding account. The second account code is received from the value holding account and allows access to the value holding account for a second determinable period that differs from the first determinable period. The method provides the second account code to a user of the account access object.

Claims (35)

1. A method comprising:

receiving, at an account access object imprinted with a first account code that identities a value holding account, a first request for a second account code responsive to activation of a selector on the account access object, the second account code associated with the first account code, the first account code allowing access to the value holding account for a first determinable period;

generating, by the account access object, a second request for the second account code responsive to receiving the first request for the second account code;

communicating, by the account access object, the second request for the second account code to the value holding account;

receiving, at the account access object, the second account code from the value holding account, the second account code allowing access to the value holding account for a second determinable period that is different from the first determinable period; and

providing, by the account access object, the second account code.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the account access object is a financial instrument.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the selector on the account access object includes a touch sensitive screen.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the activation of the selector on the account access object includes a user contacting the touch sensitive screen.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the selector on the account access object includes a software application executing on the account access object.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the activation of the selector on the account access object includes interacting with the software application executing on the account access object.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the providing of the second account code includes providing the second account code within a magnetic encoder associated with the account access object.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the communicating of the second request for the second account code includes wirelessly communicating the second request for the second account code to an account server associated with the value holding account.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the receiving of the second account code from the value holding account includes wirelessly receiving the second account code from the account server associated with the value holding account.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the value holding account includes at least one of a credit card account, a charge card account, a debit card account, and a gift card account, and the first account code includes at least one of a credit card number, a charge card number, a debit card number, and a gill card number.

11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the second determinable period expires at or before the first determinable period.

12. A non-transitory machine-readable storage medium comprising instructions that when executed by one or more processors of a machine, cause the machine to perform operations comprising:

receiving, at an account access object imprinted with a first account code that identifies a value holding account, a first request far a second account code responsive to activation of a selector on the account access object, the second account code associated with the first account code, the first account code allowing access to the value holding account for a first determinable period;

generating a second request for the second account code responsive to receiving the first request for the second account code;

communicating the second request for the second account code to the value holding account;

receiving the second account code from the value holding account, the second account code allowing access to the value holding account for a second determinable period that is different from the first determinable period; and

providing the second account code.

13. The non-transitory machine-readable, storage medium of claim 12 , wherein the second determinable period expires at or before the first determinable period.

14. The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 12 , wherein the selector on the account access object is a touch sensitive screen.

15. The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 14 , wherein the activation of a selector on an account access object includes user contacting the touch sensitive screen.

16. The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 12 , wherein the communicating of the second request for the second account code includes wirelessly communicating the second request for the second account code to an account server associated with the value holding account.

17. A system comprising one or more modules configured to:

receive, at an account access object imprinted with a first account code that identifies a value holding account, a first request for a second account code responsive to activation of a selector on the account access object, the second account code associated with the first account code, the first account code allowing access to the value holding account for a first determinable period;

generate a second request for the second account code responsive to receiving the first request for the second account code;

communicate the second request for the second account code to the value holding account;

receive the second account code from the value holding account, the second account code allowing access to the value holding account for a second determinable period that is different from the first determinable period; and

provide the second account code.

18. The system of claim 17 , wherein the account access object is a financial instrument.

19. The system of claim 17 , wherein the selector on the account access object includes a touch sensitive screen.

20. The system of claim 19 , wherein the activation of the selector on the account access object includes a user contacting the touch sensitive screen.
