Abstract

Systems and methods according to exemplary embodiments provide for overlaying graphics onto a received video content and generating a composite output. The method for overlaying graphics by a first device on top of a video content includes: receiving the video content; overlaying a first graphics on top of the video content; creating a composite output of the video content and the overlaid first graphics; and transmitting the composite output to a television (TV).

Claims (55)

1 - 32 . (canceled)

33 . A system for overlaying user created graphics on top of video content, the system comprising:

a first device, and

a second device,

wherein the first device comprises:

a first device communications interface configured to receive the video content;

a first device processor configured to overlay first user created graphics on top of the video content and configured to create a first device composite output of the video content and the overlaid first user created graphics;

the first device communications interface configured to transmit the first device composite output to a first television (TV); and,

the first device communications interface configured to transmit the first user created graphics to the second device, and

wherein the second device comprises:

a second device communications interface configured to receive the video content;

the second device communications interface configured to receive the first user created graphics from the first device;

a second device processor configured to overlay the first user created graphics on top of the video content and configured to create a second device composite output of the video content and the overlaid first user created graphics; and

the second device communications interface configured to transmit the second device composite output to a second television (TV).

34 . The system of claim 33 , wherein the second device further comprises:

the second device processor configured to overlay second user created graphics on top of the video content and configured to create an updated second device composite output of the video content, the overlaid first user created graphics, and the overlaid second user created graphics;

the second device communications interface configured to transmit the updated second device composite output to the second television (TV); and

the second device communications interface configured to transmit the second user created graphics to the first device.

35 . The system of claim 34 , wherein the first device further comprises:

the first device communications interface configured to receive the second user created graphics from the second device;

the first device processor configured to overlay the second user created graphics on top of the video content and configured to create an updated first device composite output of the video content, the overlaid first user created graphics, and the overlaid second user created graphics; and

the first device communications interface configured to transmit the updated first device composite output to the first television (TV).

36 . The system of claim 33 , wherein the first user created graphics are transmitted to the second device through a server.

37 . The system of claim 33 , wherein an instant messaging (IM) technique is used for transmitting the first user created graphics to the second device.

38 . The system of claim 33 , wherein the first user created graphics include a cursor.

39 . The system of claim 38 , wherein the cursor is moved to draw on screens of the first and second televisions (TVs), further wherein moving the cursor results in altering the first user created graphics and an altered first device composite output is generated.

40 . The system of claim 33 , wherein the first and second devices are integrated as part of the first and second televisions (TVs).

41 . A first device for overlaying user created graphics on top of a video content, the first device comprising:

a first device communications interface configured to receive the video content;

a first device processor configured to overlay first user created graphics on top of the video content and configured to create a first device composite output of the video content and the overlaid first user created graphics;

the first device communications interface configured to transmit the first device composite output to a first television (TV); and

the first device communications interface configured to transmit the first user created graphics to a second device for output to a second television (TV).

42 . The first device of claim 41 , further comprising:

the first device communications interface configured to receive second user created graphics from the second device;

the first device processor configured to overlay the second user created graphics on top of the video content and configured to create an updated first device composite output of the video content, the overlaid first user created graphics, and the overlaid second user created graphics; and

the first device communications interface configured to transmit the updated first device composite output to the first television (TV).

43 . The first device of claim 41 , wherein the first device communications interface is configured to transmit the first user created graphics to the second device through a server.

44 . The first device of claim 41 , wherein the first device communications interface is configured to transmit the first user created graphics using an instant messaging (IM) technique.

45 . The first device of claim 41 , wherein the first user created graphics include a cursor.

46 . The first device of claim 45 , wherein the cursor is moved to draw on a screen of the first television (TV), further wherein moving the cursor results in altering the first user created graphics and an altered first device composite output is generated.

47 . The first device of claim 41 , wherein the first device is integrated as part of the first television (TV).

48 . A method for overlaying user created graphics by a first device on top of a video content, the method comprising:

receiving the video content;

overlaying first user created graphics on top of the video content;

creating a first device composite output of the video content and the overlaid first user created graphics;

transmitting the first device composite output to a first television (TV); and

transmitting the first user created graphics to a second device for output to a second television (TV).

49 . The method of claim 48 , further comprising:

receiving second user created graphics from the second device;

overlaying the second user crated graphics on top of the video content;

creating an updated first device composite output of the video content, the overlaid first user created graphics, and the overlaid second user created graphics; and

transmitting the updated first device composite output to the first television (TV).

50 . The method of claim 48 , wherein the transmitting of the first user created graphics to a second device for output to a second television (TV) comprises transmitting the first user created graphics to a server.

51 . The method of claim 48 , wherein the transmitting of the first user created graphics to a second device for output to a second television (TV) comprises transmitting the first user created graphics using an instant messaging (IM) technique.

52 . The method of claim 48 , wherein the first user created graphics include a cursor, wherein the cursor is moved to draw on a screen of the first television (TV), and further wherein moving the cursor results in altering the first user created graphics and an altered first device composite output is generated.
