Abstract

The invention relates to three isolated DNA molecules that encode for proteins, BigL1, BigL2 and BigL3, in the Leptospira sp bacterium which have repetitive Bacterial-Ig-like (Big) domains and their use in diagnostic, therapeutic and vaccine applications. According to the present invention, the isolated molecules encoding for BigL1, BigL2 and BigL3 proteins are used for the diagnosis and prevention of infection with Leptospira species that are capable of producing disease in humans and other mammals, including those of veterinary importance.

Claims (11)

1. An isolated polynucleotide molecule encoding a polypeptide comprising an amino acid sequence greater than 90% identical to the amino acid sequence set forth as SEQ ID NO: 2.

2. The isolated polynucleotide molecule of claim 1 , wherein the polypeptide comprises the amino acid sequence set forth as SEQ ID NO: 2.

3. The isolated polynucleotide molecule of claim 2 , wherein the polypeptide consists of the amino acid sequence set forth as SEQ ID NO: 2.

4. An isolated polynucleotide molecule comprising a nucleic acid sequence greater than 90% identical to the nucleic acid sequence set forth as SEQ ID NO: 1.

5. The isolated polynucleotide molecule of claim 4 , wherein the polynucleotide comprises the nucleic acid sequence set forth as SEQ ID NO: 1.
