Graphical user interface which displays profile information associated with a selected contact

1. A machine-implemented method for presenting profile information on an electronic device of a user, the profile information being associated with a contact of the user, the method comprising:

comparing profile information of the user to profile information of other users;

automatically creating a preset group of contacts for the user based on the comparison, the preset group of contacts having profile information that at least partially matches the profile information of the user;

receiving first user input specifying that the preset group be included within a plurality of participants of a group conversation, the group conversation for sharing communication messages among the plurality of participants;

including, in response to the received first user input, the preset group within the plurality of participants of the group conversation;

displaying, on a graphical user interface of the electronic device, a plurality of contact icons, each contact icon respectively corresponding to one of the plurality of participants;

receiving second user input which specifies selection of a contact icon from among the plurality of contact icons; and

displaying profile information of the participant corresponding to the selected contact icon on the graphical user interface in response to the received second user input.

The method of claim 1 , wherein the profile information of the participant corresponding to the selected contact icon is displayed in at least one of a hover card or a full profile view, wherein the hover card is presented as an overlay on top of the current display on the graphical user interface, and wherein the full profile view is presented as a separate display on the graphical user interface.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the full profile view includes an about section with general information of the contact, a photos section with digital photos of the contact and a posts section comprising posts submitted by the contact.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the graphical user interface provides for user selection between the hover card and the full profile view.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the profile information of the participant corresponding to the selected contact icon is obtained from a server storing profiles for contacts of the user.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the profile information of the participant corresponding to the selected contact icon is obtained from storage on the electronic device.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the profile information of the participant corresponding to the selected contact icon is requested and obtained from a device of the contact.

8. A system for presenting profile information on an electronic device of a user, the system comprising:

one or more processors; and

a machine-readable medium comprising instructions stored therein, which when executed by the processors, cause the processors to perform operations comprising:

comparing profile information of the user to profile information of other users;

automatically creating a preset group of contacts for the user based on the comparison, the preset group of contacts having profile information that at least partially matches the profile information of the user;

receiving first user input specifying that the preset group be included within a plurality of participants of a group conversation, the group conversation for sharing communication messages among the plurality of participants;

including, in response to the received first user input, the preset group within the plurality of participants of the group conversation;

displaying a plurality of contact icons on a graphical user interface of the electronic device, each contact icon respectively corresponding to one of the plurality of participants;

receiving second user input which specifies selection of a contact icon from among the plurality of contact icons; and

displaying profile information of the participant respectively corresponding to the selected contact icon on the graphical user interface in response to the received second user input.

The system of claim 8 , wherein the profile information of the participant corresponding to the selected contact icon is displayed in at least one of a hover card or a full profile view, wherein the hover card is presented as an overlay on top of the current display on the graphical user interface, and wherein the full profile view is presented as a separate display on the graphical user interface.

10. The system of claim 8 , wherein the full profile view includes an about section with general information of the contact, a photos section with digital photos of the contact and a posts section comprising posts submitted by the contact.

11. The system of claim 8 , wherein the graphical user interface provides for user selection between the hover card and the full profile view.

12. The system of claim 8 , wherein the profile information of the participant corresponding to the selected contact icon is obtained from a server storing profiles for contacts of the user.

13. The system of claim 8 , wherein the profile information of the participant corresponding to the selected contact icon is obtained from storage on the electronic device.

14. The system of claim 8 , wherein the profile information of the participant corresponding to the selected contact icon is requested and obtained from a device of the contact.

15. A machine-readable medium comprising instructions stored therein, which when executed by a machine, cause the machine to perform operations comprising:

comparing profile information of the user to profile information of other users;

automatically creating a preset group of contacts for the user based on the comparison, the preset group of contacts having profile information that at least partially matches the profile information of the user;

receiving first user input specifying that the preset group be included within a plurality of participants of a group conversation, the group conversation for sharing communication messages among the plurality of participants;

including, in response to the received first user input, the preset group within the plurality of participants of the group conversation;

displaying, on a graphical user interface of an electronic device of the user, a plurality of contact icons, each contact icon respectively corresponding to one of the plurality of participants;

receiving second user input which specifies selection of a contact icon from among the plurality of contact icons; and

displaying profile information of the participant corresponding to the selected contact icon on the graphical user interface in response to the received second user input.

16. The machine-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the profile information of the participant corresponding to the selected contact icon is displayed in at least one of a hover card or a full profile view, wherein the hover card is presented as an overlay on top of the current display on the graphical user interface, wherein the full profile view is presented as a separate display on the graphical user interface, and wherein the full profile view includes an about section with general information of the contact, a photos section with digital photos of the contact and a posts section comprising posts submitted by the contact.

17. The machine-readable medium of claim 16 , wherein the graphical user interface provides for user selection between the hover card and the full profile view.

18. The machine-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the profile information of the participant corresponding to the selected contact icon is obtained from a server storing profiles for contacts of the user.

19. The machine-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the profile information of the participant corresponding to the selected contact icon is obtained from storage on the electronic device.

20. The machine-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the profile information of the participant corresponding to the selected contact icon is requested and obtained from a device of the contact.

21. The method of claim 3 , wherein the full profile view further includes a first graphical component associated with the about section for switching to display of the general information of the contact, a second graphical component associated with the photos section for switching to display of the digital photos of the contact, and a third graphical component associated with the posts section for switching to display of the posts submitted by the contact.

22. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

displaying a graphical component for creating a second preset group of contacts which includes all of the participants in the group conversation;

receiving third user input via the graphical component; and

creating, in response to the received third user input, the second preset group of contacts which includes all of the participants in the group conversation.
