Abstract

A mobile wireless communications device may include a circuit board, a dielectric extension extending outwardly from the circuit board, and wireless transceiver circuitry on the circuit board. The mobile wireless communications device may also include satellite positioning signal receiver circuitry on the circuit board, and an antenna on the dielectric extension and coupled to the satellite positioning signal receiver circuitry. A passive antenna beam pattern director is associated with the antenna and includes at least one electrically conductive director element in spaced apart relation from the antenna.

Claims (38)

1. A mobile wireless communications device comprising:

7. The mobile wireless communications device of claim 1 wherein said at least one electrically conductive director element comprises a pair of parallel, spaced apart electrically conductive director elements.

8. The mobile wireless communications device of claim 1 further comprising a controller coupled to said satellite positioning signal receiver, and a display cooperating with said controller for displaying satellite positioning information.

9. The mobile wireless communications device of claim 1 wherein said antenna comprises an inverted F antenna.

10. The mobile wireless communications device of claim 1 wherein said antenna comprises a monopole antenna.

11. A mobile wireless communications device comprising:

a circuit board;

a dielectric extension extending outwardly from said circuit board adjacent an upper portion thereof;

cellular transceiver circuitry on said circuit board;

a cellular antenna adjacent a lower portion of said circuit board and coupled to said cellular transceiver circuitry;

satellite positioning signal receiver circuitry on said circuit board;

a satellite positioning system antenna on said dielectric extension and coupled to said satellite positioning signal receiver circuitry; and

a passive antenna beam pattern director associated with said satellite positioning system antenna comprising at least one electrically conductive director element in spaced apart relation from said satellite positioning system antenna.

12. The mobile wireless communications device of claim 11 wherein said satellite positioning system antenna and said circuit board are relatively positioned so that said circuit board further directs the beam pattern of said satellite positioning system antenna.

13. The mobile wireless communications device of claim 12 wherein said satellite positioning system antenna comprises at least one electrically conductive trace on said dielectric extension.

14. The mobile wireless communications device of claim 11 wherein said at least one electrically conductive director element is also on said dielectric extension.

15. The mobile wireless communications device of claim 12 further comprising a controller coupled to said satellite positioning signal receiver circuitry, and a display cooperating with said controller for displaying satellite positioning information.

16. A method for making a mobile wireless communications device comprising:
