Abstract

In a liquid crystal device, when the local dimming is adopted, at a light guide plate of a lighting device, light guide plate portions having a trapezoidal planar shape where two sides facing each other in the Y-axis direction have different lengths are arranged in the X-axis direction to have reverse orientations in the Y-axis direction. A light emitting element emits the light of a light source from the end surface of the light guide plate portion which is located at a short side into the light guide plate portion. A light scattering surface is installed at the space between the light guide plate portions.

Claims (19)

1. A liquid crystal device, comprising:

a lighting device; and

a liquid crystal panel disposed to overlap a side of a light emitting surface of the lighting device,

wherein the lighting device includes:

a light guide plate comprising a plurality of plane-shaped light guide plate portions, each having a first side and a second side facing each other in a first direction and the second side is longer than the length of the first side, and the first side of a first light guide plate portion is disposed adjacent to the second side of a second light guide plate portion adjacent to the first light guide plate portion in a second direction which intersect the first direction in the in-plane direction of the light emitting surface; and

at least one light emitting element of which a light emission surface is opposed at the first side of each of the plurality of light guide plate portions, respectively.

2. The liquid crystal device according to claim 1 , wherein the light guide plate portion has a trapezoidal planar shape where the first side and the second side are parallel.

3. The liquid crystal device according to claim 1 , wherein the light guide plate portion includes an oblique side extending in the first direction and combining one end portion of the first side and one end portion of the second side, and a lateral side extending to be perpendicular to the first side and the second side and combining the other end portion of the first side and the other end portion of the second side.

4. The liquid crystal device according to claim 1 , wherein a light scattering surface is installed between adjacent light guide plate portions among the plurality of light guide plate portions.

5. The liquid crystal device according to claim 4 , wherein, between adjacent light guide plate portions among the plurality of light guide plate portions, the light scattering surface is installed at a part of the light guide plate portion in the thickness direction, and a reflecting surface is installed at the other part thereof.

6. The liquid crystal device according to claim 4 , wherein, between adjacent light guide plate portions among the plurality of light guide plate portions, the light scattering surface is installed at a part of the light guide plate portion in the thickness direction, and a clearance is provided at the other part thereof.

7. The liquid crystal device according to claim 1 , wherein a clearance is provided between adjacent light guide plate portions among the plurality of light guide plate portions.

8. The liquid crystal device according to claim 1 , wherein the thickness dimension of the plurality of light guide plate portions varies continuously in the first direction.

9. The liquid crystal device according to claim 8 , wherein the thickness dimension of the plurality of light guide plate portions increases from the side of the second side toward the side of the first side.

10. The liquid crystal device according to claim 1 , wherein the plurality of light guide plate portions are arranged so that the first side and the second side of adjacent light guide plate portions are adjacent to each other, respectively.

11. An electronic apparatus, comprising the liquid crystal device according to claim 1 in a display unit.

12. A lighting device, comprising:

a light guide plate comprising a plurality of plane-shaped light guide plate portions, each having a first side and a second side facing each other in a first direction and the second side is longer than the length of the first side, and the first side of a first light guide plate portion is disposed adjacent to the second side of a second light guide plate portion adjacent to the first light guide plate portion in a second direction which intersect the first direction in the in-plane direction of a light emitting of the light guide plate; and

at least one light emitting element of which a light emission surface is opposed at the first side of each of the plurality of light guide plate portions, respectively.
