Abstract

A wireless charging module includes an antenna and a wireless charger module. An enclosure is configured to fit at least partially within an optical drive bay of an information handling system. The antenna is disposed within a plastic lower portion of the enclosure. The plastic lower portion of the enclosure is configured to enable the antenna to wirelessly receive power from a wireless charging pad. The wireless charger module is disposed within the enclosure, and is configured to provide power to the information handling system.

Claims (41)

1. A wireless charging module comprising:

an enclosure configured to fit at least partially within an optical drive bay of an information handling system;

an antenna disposed within a plastic lower portion of the enclosure, the plastic lower portion of the enclosure to enable the antenna to wirelessly receive power from a wireless charging pad; and

a wireless charger module disposed within the enclosure, the wireless charger module in communication with the antenna and with the information handling system, the wireless charger module to determine whether the information handling system is in a bypass mode, to set a minimum power level for the information handling system when in response to the information handling system is being in the bypass mode, and to provide the minimum power level to the information handling system.

2. The wireless charging module of claim 1 further comprising:

a battery in communication with the wireless charger module, the battery to store power received from the wireless charger module.

3. The wireless charging module of claim 1 wherein the wireless charger module is further to communicate information associated with the wireless charging module to the information handling system.

4. The wireless charging module of claim 1 wherein the wireless charger module is further detect a presence of the wireless charging pad.

5. The wireless charging module of claim 1 further comprising:

a power connector to provide the power from the wireless charger module to the information handling system.

6. The wireless charging module of claim 5 wherein the power connector is selected from a group consisting of a system management bus and a communication bus.

7. The wireless charging module of claim 5 wherein the power connector includes low power pins to drive power to logic components in the wireless charging module.

8. An information handling system comprising:

an optical drive bay;

a wireless charging module including:

an enclosure configured to fit at least partially within the optical drive bay;

an antenna disposed within a plastic lower portion of the enclosure, the plastic lower portion of the enclosure to enable the antenna to wirelessly receive power from a wireless charging pad; and

a wireless charger module disposed within the enclosure, the wireless charger module in communication with the antenna, the wireless charger module to provide power to the information handling system; and

a non-metallic section disposed within a metal lower portion of a body of the information handling system, wherein the non-metallic section is disposed below the antenna of the wireless charging module to enable the antenna to wirelessly receive power from the wireless charging pad.

9. The information handling system of claim 8 further comprising:

a battery in communication with the wireless charger module, the battery to store power received from the wireless charger module.

10. The information handling system of claim 8 wherein the wireless charger module is further to communicate information associated with the wireless charging module to the information handling system.

11. The information handling system of claim 8 further comprising:

a power connector to provide the power from the wireless charger module to the information handling system.

12. The information handling system of claim 11 wherein the power connector is selected from a group consisting of a system management bus and a communication bus.

13. The information handling system of claim 11 wherein the power connector includes low power pins to drive power to logic components in the wireless charging module.

14. A method comprising:

detecting, by an information handling system, a wireless charging module within an optical bay of the information handling system;

determining, by a throttle control module of the information handling system, a class of the wireless charging module;

determining, by the throttle control module, that the wireless charging module is compatible with the information handling system based on the class of the wireless charging module;

receiving power from a wireless charger module of the wireless charging module in response to determining that the wireless charging module is compatible with the information handling system, wherein the wireless charger module receives the power from a wireless charging pad, and the wireless charger module includes a plastic lower portion to enable an antenna of the wireless charger module to wirelessly receive power from the wireless charging pad;

setting a minimum power level for the information handling system in response to the information handling system being in a bypass mode; and

providing the minimum power level to the information handling system.

15. The method of claim 14 further comprising:

storing the power received from the wireless charger module in a battery within the wireless charger module.

16. The method of claim 14 further comprising:

communicating, by the wireless charger module, information associated with the wireless charger module to the information handling system.

17. The method of claim 14 further comprising:

providing the power from the wireless charging module to the information handling system via a power connector.

18. The method of claim 17 wherein the power connector is selected from a group consisting of a system management bus and a communication bus.

19. The method of claim 17 wherein the power connector includes low power pins to drive power to the logic components in wireless charging module.
