Abstract

A liquid crystal display includes a first substrate and a second substrate with a liquid crystal layer therebetween, the first substrate having a plurality of drain signal lines and a plurality of gate signal lines, and a plurality of pixel regions defined by the drain signal lines and the gate signal lines. The pixel regions include a first electrode having a plurality of linear shapes, a second electrode having a planer shape, the second electrode being overlapped with the first electrode through an insulation film, and a thin film transistor having a video signal supplied thereto from the drain signal line. The first electrode is connected with the thin film transistor so that an electric potential of the video signal is supplied thereto, and a standard electric potential is supplied to the second electrode. A third electrode is arranged between the drain signal line and the liquid crystal layer.

Claims (18)

1. A liquid crystal display comprising:

a first substrate and a second substrate opposed to each other with a liquid crystal layer therebetween;

the first substrate having a plurality of drain signal lines and a plurality of gate signal lines; and

a plurality of pixel regions defined by the drain signal lines and the gate signal lines;

wherein the pixel regions include:

a first electrode formed of a transparent conducting layer having a plurality of linear shapes;

a second electrode formed of a transparent conducting layer having a planar shape, the second electrode being overlapped with the first electrode through an insulation film;

a thin film transistor having a video signal supplied thereto from the drain signal line;

the first electrode being connected with the thin film transistor and having an electric potential of the video signal supplied thereto through the thin film transistor, and a standard electric potential being supplied to the second electrode; and

a third electrode formed of a transparent conducting layer arranged between the drain signal line and the liquid crystal layer, the third electrode being isolated with the first electrode electrically.

2. The liquid crystal display according to claim 1 , wherein the second electrode is extended over a plurality of the pixel regions.

3. The liquid crystal display according to claim 2 , further comprising a counter electrode signal line formed of metal material, the counter electrode signal line being connected to the second electrode electrically.

4. The liquid crystal display according to claim 1 , wherein the second electrode does not have a slit-shaped opening.

5. The liquid crystal display according to claim 1 , wherein the third electrode is extended over a plurality of the pixel regions along to the drain signal line.

6. The liquid crystal display according to claim 1 , wherein the insulation film consists of inorganic materials.

7. The liquid crystal display according to claim 1 , wherein at a position of the second substrate facing the second electrode on the gate signal line, a shading film is not formed.

8. The liquid crystal display according to claim 1 , wherein a spacer is arranged on the gate signal line and forms a gap between the first substrate and the second substrate.

9. The liquid crystal display according to claim 1 , wherein the first electrode has a slit-shaped opening between transparent conductive films of linear shape.
