Abstract

A contrast media injection system includes detects the absolute position of the syringe ram using a non-contact sensor. A series of magnets and Hall-Effect sensors may be used or an opto-reflective system. Illuminated knobs that are connected to the drive mechanism for the syringe ram rotate with the drive and provide visual feedback on operation through the illumination. Analog Hall-Effect sensors are used to determine the presence or absence of magnets that identify the type of faceplate being used. The faceplates include control electronics, connected to the powerhead through connectors, which may be interchangeably used by the two faceplates. The faceplate electronics include detectors for automatically detecting the capacity of pre-filled syringes. Additional features include using historical data to provide optimum pressure limit values during an injection protocol, a removable memory device for storing and transferring information such as injection protocols and injector statistics, and password protection of such protocols.

Claims (22)

1. A contrast media injector system, comprising:

a remote console, wherein said remote console comprises remote console memory, and wherein said remote console memory comprises a plurality of separate programs for automatic injection;

a powerhead comprising powerhead memory, wherein said powerhead memory comprises the same said plurality of separate programs for automatic injection, and wherein said powerhead further comprises:

a syringe ram; and

a drive mechanism coupled with said syringe ram and configured to move said syringe ram; and

a data communication link between said remote console and said powerhead.

2. The contrast media injector system of claim 1 , wherein said remote console comprises software, and wherein said software and said remote console memory facilitate data communication operations with said powerhead.

3. The contrast media injector system of claim 2 , wherein said powerhead comprises software, and wherein said software and said powerhead memory facilitate data communication operations with said remote console.

4. The contrast media injector system of claim 1 , further comprising:

a replacement remote console, wherein said plurality of separate programs for automatic injection are transferable from said powerhead memory to said replacement remote console.

5. The contrast media injector system of claim 1 , wherein said powerhead memory comprises calibration parameters, and wherein said calibration parameters are transferable from said powerhead memory to said remote console memory.

6. The contrast media injector system of claim 1 , wherein said powerhead memory comprises calibration parameters, and wherein said remote console memory comprises the same said calibration parameters.

7. A contrast media injector system, comprising:

a remote console, wherein said remote console comprises remote console memory, and wherein said remote console memory comprises calibration parameters;

a powerhead comprising powerhead memory, wherein said powerhead memory comprises the same said calibration parameters, and wherein said powerhead further comprises:

a syringe ram; and

a drive mechanism coupled with said syringe ram and configured to move said syringe ram; and

a data communication link between said remote console and said powerhead.

8. The contrast media injector system of claim 7 , wherein said remote console comprises software, and wherein said software and said remote console memory facilitate data communication operations with said powerhead.

9. The contrast media injector system of claim 8 , wherein said powerhead comprises software, and wherein said software and said powerhead memory facilitate data communication operations with said remote console.

10. The contrast media injector system of claim 7 , further comprising:

a replacement remote console, wherein said calibration parameters are transferable from said powerhead memory to said replacement remote console.
