Application marketplace administrative controls
View Patent ↗A computer-implemented method includes receiving, by one or more servers associated with an application marketplace, a policy that includes data that identifies one or more users, and a restricted permission. A request is received, by the servers associated with the application marketplace, to access one or more applications that are distributed through the application marketplace, wherein the request includes data that identifies a particular one of the users. One or more of the applications that are associated with the restricted permission are identified by the servers associated with the application marketplace, and access by the particular user to the applications that are associated with the restricted permission is restricted by the servers associated with the application marketplace.
1. A computer implemented method comprising:
receiving data that characterizes one or more restricted applications or authorized applications;
receiving, from a user device, a request to select one or more candidate applications for potential distribution to the user device, from among multiple applications that are available for distribution from an application marketplace;
selecting the one or more candidate applications for potential distribution to the user device, from among the multiple applications that are available for distribution from the application marketplace based on the data that characterizes the one or more restricted applications or authorized applications; and
providing, to the user device, a representation of one or more of the selected candidate applications.

The method of claim 1 , wherein the representation of one or more of the selected candidate applications for potential distribution to the user device, includes an icon that identifies whether access to the one or more selected candidate applications for potential distribution to the user device, is granted.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the data that characterizes the one or more restricted applications or authorized applications further identifies a particular user of the user device.
4. The method of claim 1 , wherein selecting the one or more candidate applications for potential distribution to the user device, from among the multiple applications that are available for distribution from the application marketplace based on the data that characterizes the one or more restricted applications or authorized applications comprises:
comparing operating system level permissions requested by the one or more candidate applications for potential distribution to the user device, to the data that characterizes the one or more restricted applications or authorized applications.
5. The method of claim 1 , comprising:
receiving, from the user device, a selection of the representation of the one or more candidate applications for potential distribution to the user device; and
providing, to the user device, a portion of the one or more candidate applications based on the data that characterizes the one or more restricted applications or authorized applications.
6. The method of claim 1 , comprising:
receiving, from the user device, a selection of the representation of the one or more candidate applications for potential distribution to the user device; and
providing, to the user device, a notice that indicates that access to download the one or more candidate applications is denied, and that indicates a reason for denying access.
7. The method of claim 1 , comprising:
receiving, from the user device, a selection of the representation of the one or more candidate applications for potential distribution to the user device;
providing, to the user device, a notice that indicates that access to download the one or more candidate applications is denied; and
receiving, from the user device, a request to review a reason for the denial of access to download the one or more candidate applications.
8. A system comprising:
one or more computers and one or more storage devices storing instructions that are operable, when executed by the one or more computers, to cause the one or more computers to perform operations comprising:
receiving data that characterizes one or more restricted applications or authorized applications;
receiving, from a user device, a request to select one or more candidate applications for potential distribution to the user device, from among multiple applications that are available for distribution from an application marketplace;
selecting the one or more candidate applications for potential distribution to the user device, from among the multiple applications that are available for distribution from the application marketplace based on the data that characterizes the one or more restricted applications or authorized applications; and
providing, to the user device, a representation of one or more of the selected candidate applications.

The system of claim 8 , wherein the representation of one or more of the selected candidate applications for potential distribution to the user device, includes an icon that identifies whether access to the one or more selected candidate applications for potential distribution to the user device, is granted.
10. The system of claim 8 , wherein the data that characterizes the one or more restricted applications or authorized applications further identifies a particular user of the user device.
11. The system of claim 8 , wherein selecting the one or more candidate applications for potential distribution to the user device, from among the multiple applications that are available for distribution from the application marketplace based on the data that characterizes the one or more restricted applications or authorized applications comprises:
comparing operating system level permissions requested by the one or more candidate applications for potential distribution to the user device, to the data that characterizes the one or more restricted applications or authorized applications.
12. The system of claim 8 , the operations further comprising:
receiving, from the user device, a selection of the representation of the one or more candidate applications for potential distribution to the user device; and
providing, to the user device, a portion of the one or more candidate applications based on the data that characterizes the one or more restricted applications or authorized applications.
13. The system of claim 8 , the operations further comprising:
receiving, from the user device, a selection of the representation of the one or more candidate applications for potential distribution to the user device; and
providing, to the user device, a notice that indicates that access to download the one or more candidate applications is denied, and that indicates a reason for denying access.
14. The system of claim 8 , the operations further comprising:
receiving, from the user device, a selection of the representation of the one or more candidate applications for potential distribution to the user device;
providing, to the user device, a notice that indicates that access to download the one or more candidate applications is denied; and
receiving, from the user device, a request to review a reason for the denial of access to download the one or more candidate applications.
15. A computer-readable storage device storing software comprising instructions executable by one or more computers which, upon such execution, cause the one or more computers to perform operations comprising:
receiving data that characterizes one or more restricted applications or authorized applications;
receiving, from a user device, a request to select one or more candidate applications for potential distribution to the user device, from among multiple applications that are available for distribution from an application marketplace;
selecting the one or more candidate applications for potential distribution to the user device, from among the multiple applications that are available for distribution from the application marketplace based on the data that characterizes the one or more restricted applications or authorized applications; and
providing, to the user device, a representation of one or more of the selected candidate applications.

The device of claim 15 , wherein the representation of one or more of the selected candidate applications for potential distribution to the user device, includes an icon that identifies whether access to the one or more selected candidate applications for potential distribution to the user device, is granted.

The device of claim 15 , wherein selecting the one or more candidate applications for potential distribution to the user device, from among the multiple applications that are available for distribution from the application marketplace based on the data that characterizes the one or more restricted applications or authorized applications comprises:
comparing operating system level permissions requested by the one or more candidate applications for potential distribution to the user device, to the data that characterizes the one or more restricted applications or authorized applications.
18. The device of claim 15 , the operations further comprising:
receiving, from the user device, a selection of the representation of the one or more candidate applications for potential distribution to the user device; and
providing, to the user device, a portion of the one or more candidate applications based on the data that characterizes the one or more restricted applications or authorized applications.
19. The device of claim 15 , the operations further comprising:
receiving, from the user device, a selection of the representation of the one or more candidate applications for potential distribution to the user device; and
providing, to the user device, a notice that indicates that access to download the one or more candidate applications is denied, and that indicates a reason for denying access.
20. The device of claim 15 , the operations further comprising:
receiving, from the user device, a selection of the representation of the one or more candidate applications for potential distribution to the user device;
providing, to the user device, a notice that indicates that access to download the one or more candidate applications is denied; and
receiving, from the user device, a request to review a reason for the denial of access to download the one or more candidate applications.
