Systems and methods for rendering user interface elements in accordance with a device type

1. A method for rendering one or more user interface elements on a display screen of a device, comprising:

at a computer system coupled with the device, the computer system comprising one or more processors and memory storing one or more portable programs, for execution by the one or more processors, for rendering the one or more user interface elements on the display screen, the method comprising:

receiving a request for rendering a first user interface element without an orientation preference;

identifying a type of the device; and

in accordance with a determination that the type of the device is a first device type corresponding to television devices and the first user interface element corresponds to a first user interface element type, rendering the first user interface element as a vertical user interface element in a first display region of the display screen.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

in accordance with a determination that the type of the device is a second device type corresponding to one or more devices other than the television devices, rendering the first user interface element as a horizontal user interface element in a second display region of the display screen.

3. The method of claim 2 , further comprising rendering a second user interface element of a second user interface element type on the display screen, wherein the second user interface element, rendered in accordance with the determination that the type of the device is the first device type, matches the second user interface element, rendered in accordance with the determination that the type of the device is the second device type.

4. The method of claim 2 , wherein the horizontal user interface element is rendered along a top side of the display screen.

5. The method of claim 2 , wherein the vertical user interface element includes one or more user-selectable user interface objects that are not included in the horizontal user interface element.

6. The method of claim 2 , wherein the horizontal user interface element includes one or more user-selectable user interface objects that are not included in the vertical user interface element.

7. The method of claim 2 , further comprising:

rendering one or more user-selectable user interface objects in the first user interface element;

detecting user-selection of a respective user interface object of the one or more user-selectable user interface objects;

in accordance with the determination that the type of the device is the first device type, expanding the respective user interface object; and

in accordance with the determination that the type of the device is the second device type, maintaining a display of the respective user interface object.

8. The method of claim 2 , wherein the second device type corresponds to personal devices.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the vertical user interface element is rendered along a left side of the display screen.

10. A computer system for rendering one or more user interface elements on a display screen of a device, comprising:

one or more processors;

memory storing one or more programs, for execution by the one or more processors, for rendering the one or more user interface elements on the display screen of the device, the one or more programs including instructions for:

receiving a request for rendering a first user interface element without an orientation preference;

identifying a type of the device; and

in accordance with a determination that the type of the device is a first device type corresponding to television devices and the first user interface element corresponds to a first user interface element type, rendering the first user interface element as a vertical user interface element in a first display region of the display screen.

11. The computer system of claim 10 , wherein the one or more programs further include instructions for, in accordance with a determination that the type of the device is a second device type corresponding to one or more devices other than the television devices, rendering the first user interface element as a horizontal user interface element in a second display region of the display screen.

12. The computer system of claim 11 , wherein the one or more programs further include instructions for rendering a second user interface element of a second user interface element type on the display screen, wherein the second user interface element, rendered in accordance with the determination that the type of the device is the first device type, matches the second user interface element, rendered in accordance with the determination that the type of the device is the second device type.

13. The computer system of claim 11 , wherein the horizontal user interface element is rendered along a top side of the display screen.

14. The computer system of claim 11 , wherein the vertical user interface element includes one or more user-selectable user interface objects that are not included in the horizontal user interface element.

15. The computer system of claim 11 , wherein the horizontal user interface element includes one or more user-selectable user interface objects that are not included in the vertical user interface element.

16. A non-transitory computer readable storage medium storing one or more programs for execution by one or more processors of a computer system coupled with a device with a display screen, the one or more programs including instructions for:

receiving a request for rendering a first user interface element without an orientation preference;

identifying a type of the device; and

in accordance with a determination that the type of the device is a first device type corresponding to television devices and the first user interface element corresponds to a first user interface element type, rendering the first user interface element as a vertical user interface element in a first display region of the display screen.

17. The computer readable storage medium of claim 16 , wherein the one or more programs further include instructions for, in accordance with a determination that the type of the device is a second device type corresponding to one or more devices other than the television devices, rendering the first user interface element as a horizontal user interface element in a second display region of the display screen.

18. The computer readable storage medium of claim 17 , wherein the one or more programs further include instructions for rendering a second user interface element of a second user interface element type on the display screen, wherein the second user interface element, rendered in accordance with the determination that the type of the device is the first device type, matches the second user interface element, rendered in accordance with the determination that the type of the device is the second device type.

19. The computer readable storage medium of claim 17 , wherein the horizontal user interface element is rendered along a top side of the display screen.

20. The computer readable storage medium of claim 17 , wherein the vertical user interface element includes one or more user-selectable user interface objects that are not included in the horizontal user interface element.
