Abstract

Three-dimensional lightweight foam greeting cards are described herein having a foam body with a perimeter wall that extends between two spaced apart parallel pieces of planar sheet material such as heavy gauge paper, cardboard, or other such material. The greeting cards have a partially hollowed foam body or one or more cavities in the foam body concealed in the front and back by the planar sheet material which may be pre-cut in the shape of the foam body are decorated consistent with the design of the foam body. The cavities in the foam body may contain various electronic components that enable the greeting card to produce sound, record and playback a personalized message, trigger light activation, trigger the movement of moveable parts, display digital video, photographs or slideshows, or a combination thereof.

Claims (38)

1 . A foam greeting card comprising:

a three-dimensional foam body having a front surface, a back surface opposite the front surface and a perimeter wall which extends between the front and back surfaces, the three-dimensional foam body having one or more cavities contained therein;

a front sheet material attached to the front surface of the three-dimensional foam body and a back sheet material attached to the back surface of the three-dimensional foam body;

an electronics module operative to receive, save and replay audio files;

a switch operative to control playback of audio files saved in the electronics module;

a USB port which is contained within the three-dimensional foam body and accessed through an opening in the perimeter wall of the three-dimensional foam body; and

a collapsible stand which is slidably attached to a lower region of the three-dimensional foam body which is operative to move between a first unfolded position to a second folded position, wherein the second folded position enables the foam greeting card to stand in a self-sustained, upright position.

2 . The foam greeting card of claim 1 , wherein the electronics module is operative to accept MP3 files.

3 . The foam greeting card of claim 1 , wherein the switch is a press-button switch, which is accessed through the front sheet material.

4 . The foam greeting card of claim 3 , wherein the front sheet material contains printing thereon, which indicates the location of the press-button switch.

5 . The foam greeting card of claim 1 , wherein triggering the switch initiates playback of a user-uploaded file contained in memory on the electronics module.

6 . The foam greeting card of claim 5 , wherein triggering the switch initiates playback of a pre-recorded message providing instructions for a user to upload audio files onto the greeting card when no user-uploaded files are saved in memory.

7 . The foam greeting card of claim 1 , wherein the USB port is capable of being in a first position substantially within the three-dimensional foam body and a second position substantially outside the three-dimensional foam body.

8 . The foam greeting card of claim 7 , wherein the USB port can be moved via a slide lever which is accessible through an opening in the perimeter wall of the three-dimensional foam body.

9 . A foam greeting card comprising:

a foam body having a front surface, a back surface opposite the front surface and a perimeter wall which extends between the front and back surfaces, the foam body having one or more cavities contained therein;

a sheet material which covers the front and back surfaces of the foam body;

an electronics module operative to receive, save and playback uploaded audio files, the electronics module being located in one of the one or more cavities contained in the foam body and concealed by the sheet material;

a USB port contained within one of the one or more cavities of the foam body and accessed through an opening in a first perimeter wall;

a slide lever which is contained within one of the one or more cavities of the foam body and accessed through an opening in a second perimeter wall, the slide lever operative to move the USB port from a first position wherein the USB port is substantially contained within the foam body and a second position wherein the USB port is substantially outside the foam body;

a switch operative to control playback of an uploaded audio file.

10 . The foam greeting card of claim 9 , wherein the switch is a press-button switch.

11 . The foam greeting card of claim 9 , wherein the switch is accessed through the sheet material covering the front surface of the foam body.

12 . The foam greeting card of claim 11 , wherein the sheet material covering the front surface of the foam body contains printing thereon indicating the location of the switch.

13 . The foam greeting card of claim 9 , wherein the opening in the first perimeter wall is proximate to the opening in the second perimeter wall.

14 . The foam greeting card of claim 9 further comprising a base which is slidably attached to the foam body, the base operative to maintain the greeting card in an upright, standing position.

15 . The foam greeting card of claim 9 , wherein the uploaded audio files may not be removed from the greeting card.

16 . A foam greeting card comprising:

a foam body having a cavity contained therein;

a electronics module contained within the cavity;

a switch;

a USB port;

a base which is slidably attached to the foam body,

wherein MP3 audio files may be uploaded and saved on a memory device contained within the electronics module and replayed by activation of the switch.

17 . The foam greeting card of claim 16 , wherein the uploaded MP3 files cannot be removed or erased from the memory device.

18 . The foam greeting card of claim 16 , wherein the base enables the greeting card to maintain a standing position.

19 . The foam greeting card of claim 16 , wherein the switch is a press-button switch.

20 . The foam greeting card of claim 16 further comprising a slide lever which is operative to move the USB port from substantially within the foam body to substantially outside the foam body.
