Abstract

A radio receiver may comprise a receiver adaptable for receiving a plurality of broadcast streams over a plurality of broadcast channels, wherein the receiver will attempt to receive a selected broadcast stream on a selected broadcast channel, and if the selected broadcast stream is not receivable on the selected broadcast channel, the receiver will attempt to receive the selected broadcast stream on an alternative broadcast channel. A computer readable medium may allow a user of a receiver to create a composite stream comprising at least one portion selected from each of at least two of a plurality of broadcast streams. A method of open interface merge replication may involve comparing data between first and second databases, and if a conflict exists, updating one of the first and second databases with at least a portion of data from the other of the first and second databases to resolve the conflict.

Claims (42)

1. A method of merge replication, comprising:

accessing a first database and a second database, each of the first database and the second database including information related to one or more media broadcasts, wherein one of the first database and the second database resides on a first radio receiver and the other of the first database and the second database resides on a second radio receiver;

comparing data between the first database and the second database, wherein one of the first and second databases includes information indicating a first preset broadcast stream, and the second radio receiver includes information indicating a second preset broadcast stream;

in response to an interaction between a user and a web interface to change one the first preset broadcast stream and the second preset broadcast stream, determining whether a conflict exists between the first database and the second database, wherein the conflict includes a difference between the first preset broadcast stream and the second preset broadcast stream;

if a conflict exists:

determining whether the first database or the second database should control the resolution of the conflict; and

updating one of the first database and the second database with at least a portion of data from the other of the first database and the second database to the extent necessary to resolve the conflict by applying any changes made to one of the first preset broadcast stream and the second broadcast stream to the other of the first preset broadcast stream and the second broadcast stream.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first database has a first format and the second database has a second format different from the first format.

3. The method of claim 2 wherein one of the first database and the second database resides on a radio receiver and the other of the first database and the second database resides on a central data storage device.

4. The method of claim 1 , comprising:

determining that the first database should control the resolution of the conflict; and

if a conflict exists, updating the second database with at least a portion of data from the first database to the extent necessary to resolve the conflict.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein data associated with at least one of the first database and the second database are each uniquely identified by a globally unique identifier.

6. A radio receiver comprising:

a first computer readable medium comprising a local database adaptable for storing data representative of one or more broadcast streams that are receivable over one or more broadcast channels, wherein the data includes information indicating a first preset broadcast stream;

a second computer readable medium comprising a computer program;

a computer in communication with the first computer readable medium and the second computer readable medium; and

the computer program comprising instructions to cause the receiver to transmit, in response to a user using the radio receiver to change information related to the first preset broadcast stream, at least a portion of the data indicating a first preset broadcast stream to a second database remote from the receiver.

7. The radio receiver of claim 6 , the computer program comprising instructions to cause the receiver to transmit at least a portion of the data to the second database remote from the receiver in response to identifying a conflict between the local database and the second database.

8. The radio receiver of claim 7 , the computer program comprising instructions to cause the receiver to transmit at least a portion of the data to the second database remote from the receiver to resolve the conflict.

9. The radio receiver of claim 6 , the computer program comprising instructions to cause the receiver to transmit at least a portion of the data to a central database remote from the receiver to be pushed to one or more other databases of one or more other remote radio receivers.

10. The radio receiver of claim 9 , the computer program further comprising instructions to update the local database, in response to receiving data from the central database, to at least partially reconcile a difference between the local database and the central database.

11. The radio receiver of claim 9 , the computer program further comprising instructions to update the local database in an incremental manner, in response to receiving data from the central database, to at least partially reconcile a difference between the local database and the central database.

12. The radio receiver of claim 6 , comprising:

the local database adaptable for storing data representative of one or more composite broadcast streams that are receivable over one or more broadcast channels, the one or more composite broadcast streams individually comprising at least one portion selected from each of at least two of a plurality of broadcast streams; and

the computer program comprising instructions to cause the receiver to transmit at least a portion of the data representative of one or more composite broadcast streams to a second database remote from the receiver.

13. A radio receiver comprising:

a receiver adaptable for receiving a plurality of broadcast streams over a plurality of broadcast channels;

a computer processor in communication with the receiver;

a memory in communication with the processor;

the memory comprising a computer program comprising:

at least one instruction to access a first database and a second database, each of the first database and the second database including information related to one or more media broadcasts, wherein one of the first database and the second database resides on the radio receiver and the other of the first database and the second database resides on a remote radio receiver;

at least one instruction to compare data between the first database and the second database;

at least one instruction to determine whether a conflict exists between the first database and the second database;

at least one instruction to determine whether the first database or the second database should control the resolution of the conflict;

at least one instruction to respond to a determination that a conflict exists between the first database and the second database by updating one of the first database and the second database with at least a portion of data from the other of the first database and the second database to the extent necessary to resolve the conflict;

at least one instruction to access the first radio receiver and the second radio receiver, the first radio receiver having a first preset broadcast stream and the second radio receiver having a second preset broadcast stream;

at least one instruction to respond to an interaction between a user and a web interface to change the first preset broadcast stream by updating the second broadcast stream with at least a portion of data from the first database to the extent necessary to apply any changes made to the first preset broadcast stream to the second preset broadcast stream.

14. A radio receiver of claim 13 , wherein the first database has a first format and the second database has a second format different from the first format.

15. A radio receiver of claim 14 , wherein one of the first database and the second database resides on the radio receiver and the other of the first database and the second database resides on a central data storage device.

16. A radio receiver of claim 15 , the computer program further comprising:

at least one instruction to update the local database in an incremental manner, in response to receiving data from the central database, to at least partially reconcile a difference between the local database and the central database.
