TOUCHSCREEN KEYBOARD PREDICTIVE DISPLAY AND GENERATION OF A SET OF CHARACTERS
A method including receiving an input of a character from a virtual keyboard rendered on a display, generating a set of characters that includes the character, and displaying the generated set of characters at a location that is associated with the virtual keyboard and that is on the display. An electronic device including a display having a virtual keyboard rendered thereupon and a processor, the processor being configured to perform the method. Also disclosed is a keyboard, including a plurality of keys, each key corresponding to one or more different characters of a plurality of characters, wherein in response to receiving an input of a character, the keyboard is configured to generate a set of characters that includes the character, and the keyboard is further configured to cause display of the generated set of characters at a location associated with the virtual keyboard and that is on the display.
1 . An input method for a communication device having a programmed algorithm configured to predict input, the input method comprising:
displaying a layout having character locations and an associated character;
presenting one or more, the strings having been generated by the programmed algorithm configured to predict input, wherein the one or more strings are presented on the layout near selected character locations based at least in part on a relationship between each presented string and the associated character for the selected character location; and
receiving an input reflecting a selection of at least one of the presented strings.
2 . The method of claim 1 further comprising, displaying, responsive to the received input, the selected at least one presented string at an input location outside the layout.
3 . The method of claim 1 wherein the communication device comprises a touch sensitive display.
4 . The method of claim 3 wherein the input reflects a touch received by the touch sensitive display.
5 . The method of claim 1 wherein the layout corresponds to a QWERTY keyboard.
6 . The method of claim 1 wherein the strings are words.
7 . The method of claim 1 wherein the strings are affixes.
8 . A communication device comprising:
a display;
one or more processors; and,
one or more computer media with instructions stored thereon, the instructions causing the one or more processors to:
present on the display a layout having character locations and associated characters;
present one or more strings, the strings having been generated by a programmed algorithm configured to predict input, wherein the one or more strings are presented on the layout near selected character locations based at least in part on a relationship between each presented string and the associated character for the selected character location; and
receive an input reflecting a selection of at least one of the presented strings.
9 . The communication device of claim 8 wherein the one or more processors are further configured to display, responsive to the received input, the selected at least one selectable string at an input location outside the layout.
10 . The communication device of claim 8 wherein the display comprises a touch sensitive display.
11 . The communication device of claim 10 wherein the input reflects a touch received by the display.
12 . The communication device of claim 8 wherein the layout corresponds to a QWERTY keyboard.
13 . The communication device of claim 8 wherein the strings are words.
14 . The communication device of claim 8 wherein the strings are affixes.
15 . An input method for a communication device comprising:
displaying a layout having one or more regions associated with characters;
presenting one or more strings at locations on the layout near selected regions, the locations being selected based at least in part on a relationship between the strings and the associated characters of the regions; and
receive an input reflecting selection of at least one of the strings.
16 . The method of claim 15 , further comprising displaying the selected at least one string in an input field.
17 . The method of claim 15 wherein the communication devices comprises touch sensitive display.
18 . The method of claim 17 wherein the input reflects a touch received by the touch sensitive display.
19 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the layout corresponds to a QWERTY keyboard.
20 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the strings are generated by a programmed algorithm configured to predict input.
