Abstract

Examples are disclosed for transmitting and receiving schemes for multiuser single-carrier space time spreading (STS) with frequency domain equalization.

Claims (10)

1. A method for receiving a first chip-block and a second chip-block over a single-carrier communication channel with a receiver that is coupled to a receiver antenna, the first chip-block transmitted from a transmitter coupled to a first antenna, the second chip-block transmitted from the transmitter coupled to a second antenna, the method comprising:

receiving over the single-carrier communication channel the first chip-block and the second chip-block, wherein the first chip-block and the second chip-block separately include a first block of symbols and a second block of symbols that have been spread based, at least in part on a first orthogonal spreading code and a second orthogonal spreading code and then combined for transmission by superimposing and/or interleaving the first block of symbols with the second block of symbols;

generating a first received chip vector from the first chip-block and a second received chip vector from the second chip-block; de-spreading the first chip-block and the second chip-block included in the first and the second received chip vectors, the de-spreading to occur in the frequency domain; and generating an estimate of data associated with a symbol included in the first and second block of symbols, the estimate to occur in the time domain.

2. A method according to claim 1 , wherein the first received chip vector is generated based on taking a N/2-point discrete Fourier transform of the first chip-block and the second received chip vector is generated based on taking a N/2-point discrete Fourier Transform of the second chip-block, where N represents a total number of symbols included in both the first block of symbols and the second block of symbols.

3. A method according to claim 2 , wherein generating the estimate of data associated with the symbol comprises taking an N/2-point inverse Fast Fourier Transform of the de-spread first and second block of symbols to generate the estimate.

4. A method according to claim 1 , wherein the first received chip vector is generated based on taking a N-point discrete Fourier transform of the first chip-block and the second received chip vector is generated based on taking a N-point discrete Fourier Transform of the second chip-block, where N represents a total number of symbols included in the first block of symbols and the second block of symbols.

5. A method according to claim 4 , wherein generating the estimate of data associated with the symbol comprises generating the estimate by taking an N/2-point inverse Fast Fourier Transform of the de-spread first and second block of symbols.

6. A receiver apparatus to receive a first chip-block and a second chip-block over a single-carrier communication channel, the first chip- block transmitted from a transmitter via a first antenna, the second chip-block transmitted from the transmitter via a second antenna, the receiving apparatus comprising:

a receive manager, the receive manager including logic configured to: receive over the single-carrier communication channel the first chip-block and the second chip-block, wherein the first chip-block and the second chip-block separately include a first block of symbols and a second block of symbols that have been spread based, at least in part, on a first orthogonal spreading code and a second orthogonal spreading code and then combined for transmission by superimposing and/or interleaving the first block of symbols with the second block of symbols; generate a first received chip vector from the first chip-block and a second received chip vector from the second chip-block;

de-spread the first chip-block and the second chip-block included in the first and the second received chip vectors, the de-spreading to occur in the frequency domain; and generate an estimate of data associated with a symbol included in the first and second block of symbols, wherein the estimate is to occur in the time domain.
