Abstract

A method is provided for device detection by a base station comprising receiving a plurality of signals over a preamble subframe from an endpoint. The plurality of signals are attempting to access an access group of the preamble subframe. Additionally, the plurality of signals are received on a random access channel using a wireless network. Further, the plurality of signals have a plurality of last gasp messages (LGMs). The method additionally comprises determining an allowable rate of collisions for the plurality of signals and determining an actual rate of collisions for the plurality of signals. The method includes increasing the size of the access group allocated to the plurality of signals having the plurality of LGMs, based on whether the actual rate of collisions exceeds the allowable rate of collisions.

Claims (59)

1. A method for device detection by a base station comprising:

receiving a plurality of signals over a preamble subframe from an endpoint, wherein:

the plurality of signals attempts to access an access group of the preamble subframe;

the plurality of signals received on a random access channel uses a wireless network;

the plurality of signals includes a plurality of last gasp messages (LGMs); and

the access group includes:

a first allocation of channel signatures and a second allocation of channel signatures configured to receive a plurality of random access signals; and

a third allocation of channel signatures configured to receive the plurality of signals having the plurality of LGMs;

determining an allowable rate of collisions for the plurality of signals;

determining an actual rate of collisions for the plurality of signals; and

increasing the size of the access group allocated to the plurality of signals having the plurality of LGMs, based on whether the actual rate of collisions exceeds the allowable rate of collisions.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the

a second allocation is further configured to receive the plurality of signals having the plurality of LGMs.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein one of the plurality of signals attempting to access the access group is preceded by a random access signal attempting to access the access group from the endpoint and a random access response from the base station.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

determining an second actual rate of collisions for the plurality of signals; and

determining whether the second actual rate of collisions exceeds the allowable rate of collisions.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

reverting the size of the access group allocated to the plurality of signals having the plurality of LGMs to an original allocation.

6. One or more non-transitory computer-readable media embodying logic that, when executed by a processor, is configured to perform operations comprising:

receiving a plurality of signals over a preamble subframe from an endpoint, wherein:

the plurality of signals is attempting to access an access group of the preamble subframe;

the plurality of signals is received on a random access channel using a wireless network;

the plurality of signals includes a plurality of last gasp messages (LGMs); and

the access group includes:

a first allocation of channel signatures and a second allocation of channel signatures configured to receive a plurality of random access signals; and

a third allocation of channel signatures configured to receive the plurality of signals having the plurality of LGMs;

determining an allowable rate of collisions for the plurality of signals;

determining an actual rate of collisions for the plurality of signals; and

increasing the size of the access group allocated to the plurality of signals having the plurality of LGMs, based on whether the actual rate of collisions exceeds the allowable rate of collisions.

7. The media of claim 6 , wherein the

a second allocation is further configured to receive the plurality of signals having the plurality of LGMs.

8. The media of claim 6 , wherein one of the plurality of signals attempting to access the access group is proceeded by a random access signal attempting to access the access group from the endpoint and a random access response from the base station.

9. The media of claim 6 , further comprising:

determining an second actual rate of collisions for the plurality of signals; and

determining whether the second actual rate of collisions exceeds the allowable rate of collisions.

10. The media of claim 6 , further comprising:

reverting the size of the access group allocated to the plurality of signals having the plurality of LGMs to an original allocation.

11. A base station for wireless communication comprising:

a memory;

a processor coupled to the memory, the processor configured to:

receive a plurality of signals over a preamble subframe from an endpoint, wherein:

the plurality of signals attempts attempting to access an access group of the preamble subframe;

the plurality of signals is received on a random access channel using a wireless network;

the plurality of signals includes a plurality of last gasp messages (LGMs); and

the access group includes:

a first allocation of channel signatures and a second allocation of channel signatures configured to receive a plurality of random access signals; and

a third allocation of channel signatures configured to receive the plurality of signals having the plurality of LGMs;

determine an allowable rate of collisions for the plurality of signals;

determine an actual rate of collisions for the plurality of signals; and

increase the size of the access group allocated to the plurality of signals having the plurality of LGMs, based on whether the actual rate of collisions exceeds the allowable rate of collisions.

12. The base station of claim 11 , wherein

a second allocation is further configured to receive the plurality of signals having the plurality of LGMs.

13. The base station of claim 11 , wherein one of the plurality of signals attempting to access the access group is proceeded by a random access signal attempting to access the access group from the endpoint and a random access response from the base station.

14. The base station of claim 11 , wherein the processor is further configured to:

determine an second actual rate of collisions for the plurality of signals; and

determine whether the second actual rate of collisions exceeds the allowable rate of collisions.

15. The base station of claim 11 , wherein the processor is further configured to:

revert the size of the access group allocated to the plurality of signals having the plurality of LGMs to an original allocation.
