Abstract

A system and approach for conveying engineering and license data with a handheld or mobile device via a multi-dimensional code. Engineering data from a page such as a schematic may be generated, formatted, and encoded with a multi-dimensional code. The code in a visual presentation may be embedded in the schematic. A mobile device may scan the code. The device with an appropriate application may decode and un-format the engineering data from the code for a consumer or user. License data may be generated, encrypted, and encoded in a multi-dimensional code. The code in a visual presentation may be scanned and decrypted by the mobile device with an appropriate application, for a consumer or user.

Claims (30)

1. A system for conveying Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system engineering and licensing information via a quick response code (QR code), comprising:

a generator that generates an electronic version of a submittal page of a hardware item for an HVAC system and generates license data for a mobile application used to interact with the HVAC system, the electronic version of the page and licensing data having an image and text, based on input of a user, wherein a total size of the electronic version of the page and licensing data is greater than an available electronic size of a QR code;

a formatter that formats the imagery and text of the electronic version of the page and licensing data into a formatted electronic version of the page and licensing data;

a compressor that compresses the formatted electronic version of the page and licensing data having the image and text, wherein the total size of the formatted electronic version of the page and licensing data is greater than an available electronic size of a QR code;

an encoder that encodes the formatted electronic version of the page and licensing data into an encoded formatted electronic version of the page and licensing data;

a second generator that generates the QR code for the encoded formatted electronic version of the page and licensing data; and

a mechanism that presents a visual version of the QR code for the encoded formatted electronic version of the page and licensing data; and

wherein an image of the visual version of the QR code is embedded into the encoded formatted electronic version of the page and licensing data.

2. The system of claim 1 , further comprising:

a mobile device; and

wherein:

the mobile device comprises a mobile application that enables the mobile device to scan the visual version of the QR code of the encoded formatted electronic version of the page and licensing data, decode the encoded formatted electronic version of the page and licensing data, decompress a decoded formatted electronic version of the page and licensing data, and decode the QR code into a formatted electronic version of the page and licensing data.

3. The system of claim 2 , wherein:

the mobile device scans a visual version of the QR code for the encoded formatted electronic version of the page and licensing data;

the mobile device decodes the encoded formatted electronic version of the page and licensing data;

the mobile device decompresses the formatted electronic version of the page and licensing data; and

the mobile device un-formats the formatted electronic version of the page and licensing data.

4. The system of claim 3 , wherein the un-formatting of the electronic version of the page and licensing data results in an extraction of the image and text from the electronic version of the page and licensing data.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein:

the visual version of the QR code is printed as a label; and

the label is attached to the hardware item for the HVAC system.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the encoder incorporates encryption of the page when the encoder encodes the page and licensing data.

7. A system for conveying Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system information via a multi-dimensional code, comprising:

a first generator that generates a document having one or more of imagery and text comprising license data for an HVAC system mobile device application, wherein a total electronic size of the document is greater than an available electronic size of a multi-dimensional code;

a formatter that formats the one or more of the imagery and text of the document into formatted document binary data;

a compressor that compresses the formatted document binary data, wherein the total size of the formatted document binary data is greater than an available electronic size of the multi-dimensional code;

an encoder that encodes the formatted document binary data into the multi-dimensional code; and

a second generator that generates the multi-dimensional code as a visible image; and

wherein the visible image of the multi-dimensional code is configured such that scanning the visible image of the multi-dimensional code provides access to the HVAC system mobile device application.

8. The system of claim 7 , wherein the one or more of imagery and text of the generated document comprises information pertaining to one or more hardware items of an HVAC system.
