Methods and Systems for Capturing and Transmitting Locations Events Data Using Data Networks
Computer systems and methods for efficiently capturing and transmitting location events data using data networks are provided. In some embodiments, the computer systems and methods may comprise detecting an occurrence of a state change event of interest for an Internet-connectable device; determining optimal Internet-connectable device settings for location event captures and/or transmissions performed by the Internet-connectable device based on the detected occurrence of the state change event of interest; adjusting a configuration of the Internet-connectable device based on the determined optimal settings; and capturing and/or transmitting location events based on the adjusted configuration of the Internet-connectable device.
1 . A computer system for capturing and transmitting location events data using data networks, the computer system comprising:
a processor; and
a memory coupled to the processor, the memory storing instructions to cause the processor to perform operations comprising:
detecting an occurrence of a state change event of interest for an Internet-connectable device;
determining optimal Internet-connectable device settings for location event captures performed by the Internet-connectable device based on the detected occurrence of the state change event of interest;
adjusting a configuration of the Internet-connectable device based on the determined optimal settings; and
capturing location events based on the adjusted configuration of the Internet-connectable device.
2 . The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the state change event of interest is location-based.
3 . The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the state change event of interest is non-location-based.
4 . The computer system of claim 2 , wherein the state change event of interest is a changed state of a sensor of the Internet-connectable device.
5 . The computer system of claim 4 , wherein the changed state of the sensor of the Internet-connectable device indicates movement of the Internet-connectable device.
6 . The computer system of claim 3 , wherein the state change event of interest is a changed state of a resource of the Internet-connectable device.
7 . The computer system of claim 1 , wherein adjusting the configuration of the Internet-connectable device comprises adjusting the frequency of location event captures.
8 . The computer system of claim 1 , wherein adjusting the configuration of the Internet-connectable device comprises adjusting which sensor of the Internet-connectable device is used to capture location events.
9 . The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the state change event of interest is determined based on capabilities of the Internet-connectable device.
10 . The computer system of claim 9 , wherein determining the state change event of interest depends on a status of the capabilities of the Internet-connectable device.
11 . The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the state change event of interest is determined based on needs of a component of the Internet-connectable device requiring location event captures.
12 . The computer system of claim 1 , wherein detecting the occurrence of the state change event is by notification.
13 . The computer system of claim 1 , wherein determining optimal Internet-connectable device settings is also based on other state change events.
14 . The computer system of claim 1 , wherein determining optimal Internet-connectable device settings is also based on a previous state of a source of the state change event.
15 . A computer system for capturing and transmitting location events data using data networks, the computer system comprising:
a processor; and
a memory coupled to the processor, the memory storing instructions to cause the processor to perform operations comprising:
detecting an occurrence of a state change event of interest for an Internet-connectable device;
determining optimal Internet-connectable device settings for location event transmissions performed by the Internet-connectable device based on the detected occurrence of the state change event of interest;
adjusting a configuration of the Internet-connectable device based on the determined optimal settings; and
transmitting location events based on the adjusted configuration of the Internet-connectable device.
16 . The computer system of claim 15 , wherein the state change event is an availability of a communication network.
17 . The computer system of claim 15 , wherein adjusting the configuration of the Internet-connectable device defers the transmission of location events.
18 . The computer system of claim 15 , wherein adjusting the configuration of the Internet-connectable device results in the transmission of location events in a single batch.
19 . The computer system of claim 15 , wherein adjusting the configuration of the Internet-connectable device results in the transmission of location events in multiple batches.
20 . The computer system of claim 15 , wherein the adjusted configuration is a time of the transmission of location events.
21 . The computer system of claim 15 , wherein the processor is further caused to perform the operation of:
determining a significance of the detected occurrence of the state change event of interest.
22 . The computer system of claim 21 , wherein significance is determined based on a threshold value.
23 . The computer system of claim 15 , wherein the adjusted configuration is dynamic.
24 . A method for capturing and transmitting location events data using data networks, the method comprising:
determining a state change event of interest for an Internet-connectable device based on capabilities of the Internet-connectable device;
detecting an occurrence of the state change event of interest, wherein the occurrence of the state change event of interest indicates a change to a source of the state change event of interest;
determining optimal Internet-connectable device settings for location event captures performed by the Internet-connectable device based on the detected occurrence of the state change event of interest and a previous state of the source of the state change event of interest;
adjusting a configuration of the Internet-connectable device based on the determined optimal settings; and
capturing location events based on the adjusted configuration of the Internet-connectable device.
25 . The method of claim 24 , wherein the state change event of interest is location-based.
26 . The method of claim 24 , wherein the state change event of interest is non-location-based.
27 . The method of claim 24 , wherein the state change event of interest is a changed state of a sensor of the Internet-connectable device.
28 . The method of claim 27 , wherein the changed state of the sensor of the Internet-connectable device indicates movement of the Internet-connectable device.
29 . The method of claim 26 , wherein the state change event of interest is a changed state of a resource of the Internet-connectable device.
30 . The method of claim 24 , wherein adjusting the configuration of the Internet-connectable device comprises adjusting the frequency of location event captures.
